Great professor. He uploads outlines before the lecture making it easy to take notes and follow along (this is also helpful if you miss a lecture). He provided study guides for the midterm and final letting you know exactly what will be on the test.

All lecture slides posted at the beginning of the quarter and actually tells you that you don't have to come to class if you don't want to. It's helpful to go to lecture because he explains things more in depth. There is a research paper, the sources are given to you and you have plenty of time to write it. Interesting material, boring lectures.

Great intro class. The textbook is very helpful and easy to read. His lectures are interesting and mirror the textbook. He's obviously very knowledgeable and breaks down some more specific/confusing topics nicely. Exams were pretty straightforward, although there was the occasional tricky question. Homework was easy, discussion helped a lot.

Prof. Aranovich is great. All his lectures are posted online, so that's good. He is interesting to listen to. He is very dedicated to his field of study which helps spark interest in linguistics to his students. Midterm and final were good tests. Not insanely easy, not insanely hard. If you went to class and actually paid attention, you were good.

Really nice professor. He is funny and really into his field. Lectures are fun and interesting. Discussion sections are mandatory and there is hw every week. Tests are difficult! I read the entire book on linguistics and it still did not prepare me for the exams. Even though, the professor is interesting, I wish I never took this class.

This class isn't the easiest ever, it's pretty tough but his lectures are REALLY fun. He uses memes as examples and he shows really interesting video clips in class. He also has a really great sense of humor, and he's pretty attractive.

Intro to linguistics with Aranovich is one of the easiest GE courses that I've taken so far. Lecture powerpoints are posted on smartsite so oversleeping for lecture wasn't a problem. It's a fairly interesting course and not too much reading is required.

Very well taught class. I ended up taking most of my GEs in Linguistics because of him.

Prof Aranovich can be a dry lecturer and become easily frustrated sometimes, but he and the TAs are pretty lenient graders and the material is clear. He wants you to do well and puts all slides online. Few people attended the 9 am lecture but exams were open books and very reasonable.

Takes far more care in trying to craft homework and exams that are within reach of students who have studied the texts and notes with some degree of effort, and came to class the majority of the time, than many Davis professors. In general, takes more notice of his students (in comparison to research)than many professors. NOT an easy A, though.

he's a good teacher and knows his material, though his test are difficult and grading is not very good either, i would avoid him if your looking for a good grade in this easy class....

Aranovich was a great teacher. I didn't know what to expect and found the subject a tad dry, but Aranovich is clearly in love with what he does and got me interested in an otherwise boring subject. Also he has a cool accent and is very charming

very nice and understandable professor. tests are tricky, doesn't curve. lectures are basically an outline of the text, but tests are not. Very interesting class and topic.

Tests are actually quite simple. Txtbk is very clear. Aranovich sometimes makes speculative remarks, which is kind of annoying. Also said he was skeptical of infants abilities to learn to sign.. If you've taken any early childhood development classes you'd know it's really not that far fetched... These things for me weaken his overall credibility.

Lectures were pretty boring and I didn't go to half of them (and still got an A in the class). The discussions were even more boring, unless you got a great TA. As other people said, homework and papers were graded pretty hard, and midterms/final had difficult and/or tricky questions, although were very doable if you're good at multiple choice exams
