This is the worst teacher you could possible take. His incoherent rambling will drive you crazy 3 days a week because attendance is mandatory. He grades tough and there is no possible way to understand his discussions. Very knowledgeable but he makes no sense!! You will find yourself looking forward to the evaluation for some justice.

If it is not too late, DROP THIS CLASS. I hate to say it but he is awful. He rambles endlessly and most of what he says in class has nothing to do with the papers you have to write. And the papers are HORRIBLE. I absolutely regret taking this class.

I got a B in the class, so I'm not going to say he was terrible. He is really boring though, and he is a critical grader. I've always gotten A's in English, but he told me I needed to improve my basic writing skills. The books he picks are confusing and when he explains them you can't understand anything he says!

Very bad english teacher, avoid if at all possible. He mumbles the whole time about nothing, then expects you to understand. He wants to be helpful if you ask questions but he talks above all students and doesn't really answer your question. He grades hard on all the papers and rarely gives out an 'A'

Go to class--attendance is very important to him. Go to the required conferences and speak up in class.He was SO BORING! I found watching the minutes pass by on my cell phone was more entertaining than listening to him. I almost went crazy. Sometimes he will go a whole class period with him talking and nobody else saying a word. He mumbles a lot.

He is very fair. If you read the books and pay attention in class you will have no problem. His lectures are random sometimes, but interesting. Grades are distributed according to your class participation, 2 tests and 2 papers. If you show him that you are interested in the books and are keeping up...you should get an A.

Ok, yes, the papers are boring to write, and the lectures are boring to hear. Having said that, he IS fair. The point of the class is to refine your writing, period. He is supposed to be critical, and gets frusterated, as do I, when freshman come to AU not knowing how to form a sentence correctly. I got an A on each of my papers. Stop whinning.

Such a weird guy! Every class was pretty entertaining because of the random suff he would always say. Plus, he was very helpful with keeping me on track with my writing. Even if I was almost completely off topic he still enjoyed the writing. Basically the writing I think he likes is very unstructured.

I considered myself a fairly decent writer, but one needs more than that for this class, maybe a pulitzer prize? Dr. Smith wants people to write a certain way, when in fact (like fingerprints) everyone's writing style is different. Dr. Smith chooses favorites. He did not like me because I am in a sorority. My father writes edits books for a living, and I would send the paper to my dad after writing them. Then I would go to the English Center for help. They would tell me I should get a B. I got a D on every paper.

Dr Smith was not a difficult teacher. If you read the books, go to class ans speak up a little bit , and complete all of the assignments, then you should secure at least a B. There were 2 papers, some in class writing assignments, a midterm & final. He is monotone and boring but a very nice man.
