He is a not a hard professor but he is a tough grader. I mean he will confuse you with the simplest stuff and deduct your points out of it so BECAREFUL once you take his class! he never gives a student a chance. And if you want to learn choose another professor instead or else you are just going to learn from your self!

This is the most moral, aware and wonderful man you could have the opportunity of having as a professor. Many right-minded students will have trouble swallowing his concepts, but those who can absorb his ideas will be a better person because of it. If the rest of the world thought like him, we would live in a much better world. URI will miss you

Terrible teacher. He clears his throat after every sentence (395 times in one class... I counted). He has some great ideas, but doesn't talk about econ. at all. He goes on rants every class about how we are slowly destroying our earth. He wrote the book, so it isn't very helpful other than for the quizes. Study real econ before exams would be fine.

It was a hard class. The clearing throat problem won't distract if you sit pretty far in the back. But he was an INCREDIBLE professor. I wasn't really interested in economics but he made it pretty interesting. And I agree with the some of the others that its best to study a lot on your own because the exam is not much based on the lectures.

Starkey is friggin awesome, its funny watching all the freshman and sophmores complain about ecn201, but if u make economics your major, then u will see what a truly amazing teacher he is. I mean come on, who wants to deal with whiny freshman anyway? can ya blame the guy?

If you like listening to someone go on a liberal rant for over an hour take this class. He cleared his throat constantly which was so annoying and distracting I almost dropped the class. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.

your entire grade consists of the final and the midterm, then there are 4 bonus papers to write, each worth 2 points on your average. the class itself bored me. he does not scale the grades at all. he told me i got a C in the class, but i end up getting a C- when i checked ecampus. TAKE ECON WITH ANOTHER TEACHER! you'll be very thankful

Jim (mmhmmm) Starkey (mmhmm) is probably the most liberal person you'll ever meet...we spent 2 weeks talking about prominent environmentalists and how Republicans are going to blow up the Earth. If you don't mind that, and have no problem learning nothing about economics, the class is a breeze. The scale is enormous.

Not the greatest professor. Class was pretty boring and I definitely didn't learn much about economics. If you like skipping classes, this is for you. Massive scale- Final grade should have been a C+/B-, but got an A.

I really enjoyed taking his class. I was skeptical going into it because he certainly lets his personal opinion into his lesson, but it was good none the less. YOU NEED TO STUDY ON YOUR OWN, his lectures are insightful but not always related to the exams. I reccommend taking his class.

unless you want lots of homework and quizzes you'll like this class. he knows a lot so if you ask him a specific question he'll spend a good 5 minutes actually answering your question. characteristic of economists he's pessimistic about the future but presents that in very real concepts.

I didn't really like him has a person. But he taught interesting material when I did go to class. There are only two tests, and there are four papers. The four papers can only help your grade. He scales the exams really well. Even if you bomb the exams, there is still a chance you can get a good grade at the end of the semester.

WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD.Actually contemplated punching him in the throat to keep him from clearing it every 6 seconds. He says "OK" after every sentence and his lectures are pointless.can come off prejudiced but admits to saying things just to get a reaction from students.4 papers,2 tests-midterm and final. take a different professor. He SUCKS!
