It gets difficult pretty quickly to attempt taking notes in his class. So, it is important to do the readings before class and take your own notes, and then build on top of that during class. He is really passionate about the topic and brings a lot of relatable examples. It is also helpful to talk to him after class just to debrief on the lecture.

The lectures and material was interesting, and I found Prof. Kubik to be a very interesting professor. But if the purpose of college is to receive feedback for your work, then this class is worthless. 3 page lit. review, in class presentation, and a 13pg essay. Didn't even get individual grades for the assignments, let alone comments.

Lectures are mandatory for attendance(20%) but offer little to no help. Midterm exam is 30%, Final exam 50%. Both exams consists of 5-7 essays to be written linking the concepts together. Gives study guides, but have over 35 possible essay questions. Textbook is required and it is written by him, profiting off his students says alot. Beware.

Class was not as easy as it seemed, but did well. Kubik is a very good instructor and made learning about protest movements and democratization interesting with his background as an anthropologist and growing up in Communist Poland. This university will miss him now that he is teaching in London, but was happy that I got to be one of his students.

He's a smart guy, and it's worth going to class to listen to him even if the material is not covered in depth. Interesting perspectives both personally and academically. Easy course work too.

Lectures were boring but the class was very manageable. Quizzes on the reading occasionally. Attendance mandatory. 7 page paper is easy and tests were formed completely from the study guides.

The class is about international politics and the various regime types present (democratic or communist). All in all, I never took notes in one lecture. He gives study guides for the midterm and final, I just got the completed study guides from other students and memorized them. B+ in the class. there is also a 7 page paper that is 20% of yourgrade

Okay. So you don't learn but too much about PoliSci per se but it is an interesting class. He works with students and is very lenient. Research him as a person and you'll see he's authored GREAT things. It's really an intro course so relax. Do those index cards though!

Easier than high school. Sadly, I learned nothing useful. As someone else said, a lot of rambling, digressing, anecdoates, and personal stories... but, really, is that what Political Science is about? Persuaded me to avoid PS classes like the plague

He's not a great professor but nor is he a bad professor. He's a decent professor. His tests are fair and his quizzes are easy. You have to buy Iclicker for his quizzes and attendance. It's an intro class so i guess he shouldn't make it too difficult. But i'm not sure if I learned a whole lot! He talks a lot about him growing up under communism.

Excellent professor! Thanks to him and his course, I realized that I wanted to major in political science. He is clear and does thorough explanations. He is very interested and enthusiastic about what he does. Go to lecture, pay attention, read the book and you should be fine to get an A.

Very nice man and very helpful outside of class. However, attendance is very mandatory. textbook was online, but most of stuff for exams was covered in lecture. lecture could be a bit boring sometimes but take the notes and you will ace the exams easily. we did nothing in my recitation section, just show up to get credit. one paper 5-7 pages

Took Comparative Politics, he's an easy guy, pretty nice, not a jerk in your face attitude. He knows his stuff, but you do have to keep up a bit with the readings. Save 2 wks to study for midterm and final, use chatroom a lot to know all the terms and concepts he expects u to learn. Overall, a good guy and a great way to fulfill global awareness.

Difficult class b/c of complicated readings, unorganized and complex lectures, and although exam questions are given in advance, there are about 20-35 questions to memorize and he just chooses one. Very nice professor, but i found the class to be difficult and VERY HARD TO FOLLOW. Lectures are long and disconnected from the readings. Bad course!

Dont listen to the negative comments, I thought I was struggling in class too, but in the end he curves the grades up. If you do a MODERATE amount of work, and do maybe 100 out of 1000 assigned pages, you can get an A. His lectures can be a bit dry, and its easy to feel lost between them and the reading, but in the end it comes together- somewhat.
