Took her class as a freshman just starting out in photography and realized that she expected you to know all the basics beforehand. I had never shot black and white film, developed it or printed in the dark room. At one point she was so discouraging that she told me that I should become a photo critic instead of a photographer. not a people person!

Jan is an amazing teacher. At first she might seem strict, but that's because she has high (and reasonable expectations). She gets to know you if you want her to and is very helpful to answer any questions. If you're taking Basic Photography, SIGN UP FOR HER CLASS!

She's got skills and she knows what she is doing! Don't slack off because you will not get far at all. Make sure you have an ample amount of time to attend the open lab. If you have certain plans during those times, cancel them! You'll need to attend in order to turn in your assignment perfectly (and not late)!

Jan is the best photography professor I've ever had. She's very patient with students and passionate about teaching. She's a hard grader, but a fair one. Don't take her class for an easy A; you won't get one. You'll learn a lot in her class if you put in the effort. I was amazed by how much my photography improved over the course of one semester.

She is wonderful and helpful..she's patient, but you have to be willing to do the work and show it. Her classes are great, you will learn a lot and work hard. Expect to be at every class and attend the outside of class darkroom labs!

Jan is one of the best professors I've ever had. She's always there to help and is always willing to spend extra time with you to help your further your education. She doesn't put up with crap or halfassing, so don't take her classes if you don't intend to try.

She's difficult. And my friend and I missed what she said she had told us a few times, which was strange. But she's pretty helpful. VERY strict. What makes it the hardest is the darkroom hours aren't very good, and she's not very lenient on late projects

Jan's a fun teacher and a very good teacher for learning the basics of photography. She's strict on darkroom discipline but will go the extra mile to help you get the results you want from prints. Challenging without being discouraging.
