Professor Newman teaches because she wants her students to learn and be interested in her field. She's a wonderful teacher and makes you want to learn more about the Renaissance and films.

Took this class my first year and it was definitely an easy way to transition into college classes. Pay attention to lectures and do the readings to be ready for quizzes, other than that lots of opportunities for extra credit so you really can't fail this class.

Jane is such an awesome professor. Her passion and insane knowledge makes you actually interested in the class, and she is so caring about her students. She doesn't care grades, she wants you to engage in the material and offers tons of EC. Take her class and get to know her, she may even write your letter of rec if you're cool enough.

very smiley, enthusiastic, chill. the work is easy and sparse. she gives you like 20 extra credit opportunities, you have no excuse. i'm lazy and dumb as fvck and i managed an A. prof newman is very cool and very smart, and even if you don't give a shyt about europe and/or the renaissance you'll learn a thing or two by the end of the quarter

If you take humcore, you'll have her whether you like it or not. That said, she's quite good. She's very enthusiastic about her subject. Another bonus is that her lectures are very close to her powerpoints, which means that if you miss class - or fall asleep - you'll catch up easily if you look over them (they're posted on the humcore website).

Wonderful teacher! I loved her class. Tuesday meetings were kind of long, though, because of the studio time, but the films she showed were very interesting. Especially loved Theater of War. Not an easy class, though. There's a lot of work required, but it's worth it. Take her if you can :)

Jane is without a doubt one of the BEST professors at UCI. She throws a lot of work at you, but she won't hang you out to dry. She grades hard, but half your grade is turning the paper in, so don't worry. Jane gives great feedback and teaches a new way to analyze information info that will stick with you long after you've completed the course.

I did my senior thesis with her & took Hum101a with her the year before. She is the most AMAZING prof I've ever had at UCI. She does grade hard & give ton of reading but it's worth it. I became a better writer & learned to research efficiently under her study. She's chill, funny and very helpful. Every humanities major should take a class with her!

There are a lot of writing assignments, so it's not exactly an easy A, but because she has so many assignments and point allocations, it's easy to get those points to add up to that A. Just do the work. She's super smart and very laid back. If you're a CompLit major, definitely take at least one of her classes.

Probably the most intelligent professor I've ever had. In her Freshman seminar, we talked about so many things. I've learned more from her in the past few weeks than I have from any other teacher. She knows so much about everything. Easy course, full of discussion, always interesting.

She really is the best. She got her undergrad at Yale, and graduate at Princeton, so there's no doubt that she knows her stuff. If only she taught more often, I would take all her classes. She's just such an inspiration! The reading can be steep, but it's so interesting that it doesn't even matter.

Don't pay attention to your first grade. You will catch on, and as soon as you do, you'll be fine. She is so entertaining and very knowledgeable. If you go to office hours, she will fall all over herself trying to get you academic opportunities.
