V. Brown is an excellent professor. Lots of reading. Very meticulous grader; requires that you say EXACTLY what you mean to say. Excellent discussion leader. Very concerned with personal success. If you're reading this, you'll likely never take a class from her (she's retiring spring 2012), but if you have ANY question about history, talk to her.

Prof. Brown is an all around wonderful woman, let alone an outstanding professor. I would recomend her for anybody with a serious interest in history, and willing to put in some work. That said, it is beyond worth it. Cannot wait to take more of her classes.

Absolutely amazing professor! Classroom experience like I've never had before. She demands that you work at least as hard as she does, but the extremely heavy workload is worth every second. One of the most interesting people and professors ever! Whatever she teaches, take it!!!!!

Very demanding but excellent professor. She will work her butt off for you if you work your butt off for her! If you slack off, she will call you on it. She rewards hard work and active class participation. Expect to do a lot of writing.

I've really never had a class I hatedd as much. She's a mean and bitter woman who doesn't acknowledge other opinions and instead attacks students and belittles them. I wouldn't reccommend it to anyone who has ever felt a moment of self doubt. A horrible class from a self obsessed woman.

I think she is an excellent professor, but you really need to be interested. It's not good if you're in her class just to fill your social studies requirement because you'll be expected to do a lot of work. Not busy work, but reading and analysis.

I imagine she is great for specific courses, but her survey course in American History was just plain bad. It was nothing more than a feminist manifesto comprised of Jane Addams and the Progressive Era. Not balanced, not fair, and politically biased. (That said, most Grinnellians will probably love it, as her other ratings indicate.)

No **** allowed in her class (and that's a good thing). She made me work my ass off, and I'm glad. Learned tons about American history from her.

She's a bad prof. Great lady and I still stop and talk to her sometimes but her class was torture for me. Her affection for injecting her own ideology into class wore on me quite a bit and discussions never seemed to go anywhere. Maybe she is better for women's history but I would stay away from imm. history.

Victoria Brown is the best professor I have ever had. She'll work you hard, but it will be the one of the best classes you take. Her comments are incredibly helpful and really teach you how to write effectively. She's a must-take before graduation.

I looked forward to every one of her classes, even the ones I knew would be tough. She completely reshaped how I write and presented me with an amazing new role model. I sometimes wonder if I declared a history double major just to keep her as an advisor.
