Great woman and VERY smart, but her teaching style is all over the place and I need notes to study from not just reading the book and listening to open conversation in class. Did well in her play scripts but almost failed her history class. An additional class I received a "C" from her. I'm a straight "A" student but not in any of her classes.

At first this class was totally over whelming, but when you figure out how it works it's easy. Read the chapters and pay attention in class and you'll be golden. JP is the most intelligent, educated, and knowledgeable woman I've ever met.

JP is a great person and has a vast knowledge in theatre history. That being said, she is one of the worst professors I have ever had. She is incapable of staying on topic during lectures and it is often difficult to discern what she's just blabbing about and what we actually need to know. I would never recommend her.

Had her for Play Script Interpretation and Theatre History already. Managed to get by in Play Script, but had to drop Hist. She's an awesome woman, but not the best of teachers. Her style of teaching is simply not compatible with my style of learning and I ended u failing most quizzes. Talking the class with a different prof. and doing awesome.

I agree, that the people who bash J.P do not care about theater history. She is very passionate about theater. She does not hand out grades on a silver platter, you work for what you earn. Everyone just likes Mary English because there is not a lot of work involved.J.P says "there are two types of people, theater people and people who do theater"

Do not take her for Theater History! Take her for SCRIPT INTERPRETATION! Her Theater History class is so hard. For each chapter she gives you a list of about 60-70 terms and expects you to memorize all of them, even though half of them are used. 3 exams: The first one is on 4 chapters and 2-3 plays. Take Mary English for the THTR HIST classes!

I had this professor for script interpretation, and all we had to do was read one play a week and we would have a test the following class. It wasn't bad at all. Class participation helped a lot too. She seemed very nice to me and the class wasn't at all something that made you want to pull your hair out. Take the class. It is not that bad at all.

Interesting Class. The most academically challenging in SART for undergrads. Very discussion oriented. Not pollitically charged as the previous person said more like common sense charged. The class is very competitive but if you try hard you will come through with flying colors. You will be asked to read 5 plays and writes 10 papers no biggie!

Yea she's smart, yea she can teach you a lot...but her ramblings are a bore and if you don't believe in her way of life, politics, etc. you'll feel about an inch big in her class. You want to learn? Take her classes. But be ready to disagree and be afraid to speak up.

JP rocks my world. She is the real deal, and anyone who says otherwise just doesn't appreciate a great professor when they are presented to them. She is engaging, thoughtful, sweet, and funny. Her class is great and I can't wait for next semester.
