Comment:

She only has one performance at the end of each semester that is literally worth your whole grade. If you do not show up for class or late, she gets mad and will call you out in class. With solos it seems she only choses her favorites. She also pulled in a girl from another choir to sing a solo instead of a girl already in the choir.

She's a great person, but her classes are a little boring. She does try to make it interesting. If you don't show up, you won't get the notes. Midterms and finals are hard if you don't study or pay attention, but she does try to help. She does revise the material every few classes and gives a mini midterm/final so you can see where you stand.

She is different, but caring. Massive troglodyte. No textbook for Music & Society but notes she writes herself. Grade is from midterm, presentation and final. If you fail the midterm, she will find a way to give you credit. Very knowledgeable, but teaches through her beliefs. Not an Easy A, you have to study and listen to the music to pass.

Honestly, her class was a joke. She did not give great notes. So monotone and bland. She does answer emails, but only two tests and final... Her tests are really random and for one test she gave us the study guide morning of.

The most crabby woman I've ever met. I was VERY disappointed. She scheduled a concert on the night of my Chemistry lab final, and wouldn't accept any offer of mine for an extra assignment. Not to mention I had all ten feet of her glaring down at me when I was reprimanded later for daring to take my Chem final rather than go to her concert! SCARY!

Having come from a very high-caliber high school choral program, I was unspeakably disappointed with the lack of professionalism in the UMW choral department. She's a sweet person and a wonderful singer, but not quite organized enough to run a choral program up to my personal standards.

ATTEND CLASS AND DON'T FORGET YOUR MUSIC! This class is so easy. But if you are interested in music, it can be a bit painful because there are students who have never sang before so it will just be a place for you to sing once a week. She's a bit crazy but not in a bad way, definitely loves music a lot. Great class!

What a great class! The professor is very nice and she is very passionate about what she teaches. She likes it when people talk in class and there is no wrong answer. She can be a little unorganized, but gives you everything you need to know for the mid-term and final. Overall, this was a very easy class and I highly recommend it.

Huge breadth of topics. Few, easy grades. Requirements for assignments can be a bit vague, but you just have to know how to ask the right questions to get the information that you need. Otherwise, she is a very nice professor!

Overall, she's a great lecturer but is disorganized (no powerpoint or any explicit lecture notes whatsoever) far as the actual lecture material and you definitely have to pay very close attention to what she says in lecture in order to understand what's going on. Other than that she's really sweet and likes to get to know her students.

Jane is a bit crazy and I don't understand why she wears the clothes she does, but she's sweet and enthusiastic about music. It's an easy class even for people who don't know much about music: just show up for class and go to concerts. Oh, and Cathy the pianist is extremely talented, plus she's a trip

she's pretty scatterbrained sometimes, but she seems genuinely interested in the subject matter and tries to get to know everyone. sweet lady. she tells you exactly whats on all of her tests- she actually wants you to do well. its not necessary to go to every class either.

She is a pretty good lecturer for not using many notes, though it was often unclear what exactly I should be taking notes on as she goes off on a lot of tangents. The tests are pretty easy, she gives study guides. She never answered any of my emails, but they weren't that urgent. Just pay attention and answer questions, she'll love you.

Easy class and enjoyable if you love to sing. I like Jane but for me personally she made class awkward and less enjoyable because she absolutely FAWNED over an individual. This individual did have a beautiful voice and I did agree with Jane but she made me feel less worthy for not having as beautiful of a voice. Not fun. Awesome music though.

She was very nice. I didn't like some of the music, mostly because most of it was Christian and a lot of it wasn't in English (which is never a problem if there's some sort of pronunciation guide). She's very peppy and talented.

She's very intimidating initially, but once she gets to know you she's sweet. I would suggest behaving in her class because she gets upset if the music isn't being taken seriously and people aren't working at it. And don't miss class, that will really make her... not happy.

after reading some of the comments on here, i was nervous to take her class, but i just signed up for my third semester with her. she's amazing. she gets mad if a section doesn't know their part, but she usually apologizes. you have to go to every class, but an easy A.

CPDL is not a credible source from which to get every peice of music for performance. Just because she thinks someone is more talented she treats them differently, which is a large flaw in the classroom. I often leave feeling like I've wasted an hour of my life.

Dr. Tavernier is a good choral director but you should expect to work in this class. It's not impossible and if you just go, you'll almost surely get an A but she hates it when a section doesn't know their part. It's easy to tell that she loves what she does.
