Comment:
Riddle is a great professor and is a great lecturer, but he is a REALLY tough greater. He is very picky on how he wants his short answer tests to be answered. Go to every class and take detailed notes and maybe even record. He does give EC. The content was very interesting and the final grade consisted of 4 chapter test and the lab portion.

Riddle is very laid back, he doesnt lecture at you so class is more like a conversation. Grade is based on 4 exams. You have to attend lecture and record. He pretty much gives you the answers to his exam questions you just have to listen and review the ppt. Gave extra credit that helps. Lab is somewhat more difficult but Kit is an awesome TA!

Professor Riddle is one of the best professors I've had in a long time. He tells you exactly what he wants for the exam and is always willing to help his students. The lab portion of the class won't necessarily help in lecture, but both are very interesting and if I could retake this class for fun, I would. I loved every minute!

Riddle is a very specific and hard grader. Studying for this class was difficult and frustrating since so much info was covered and the questions on the exams were simple. He takes off points for not being specific in your answers. Wish he provided a study guide for the exams.

I took this class partly due to the moderate- positive comments. He stopped posting the PPts for you to fill out prior to class, instead posts them a couple days after he lectured on them. His exams are all short answer. The questions are not bad, but he takes off points and doesn't explain why. He asks general Q's but looks for specific answers.

RUN FAR. Riddle is such a tough grader, takes away points for stupid stuff. All essay style questions. I went to class everyday, recorded lectures, studied a lot and I'm failing his class because of his difficult tests and tough grading. SAVE YOURSELF THE STRESS AND DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He is a nice guy and can be funny but he is not a good prof

There are a total of 4 noncumulative tests each worth 25% of your grade. He is funny but the information is BORING. The book is not required. Test aren't hard but are all essay questions, so make sure to study concepts and figures in the powerpoints. I strongly recommend going to class and recording the lecture.

In all, Bio490 is not the most interesting subject, but Riddle knows his stuff and does a good job explaining it. His tests focus on his power points, not the book, so make sure to know the diagrams, graphs and terms in each unit. Go to class. His powerpoints are fill in the blank and can be tricky to complete without his lecture to help.

Great, funny guy, but the material is mind-numbingly boring. The tests aren't too bad, but they are all written, so make sure you go to class, takes notes, and fill in the ppts, and know them to a T. If you aren't into species and distribution, this class is boring, but I can think of worse ways to take a upp div bio. Thank Riddle!

Dr. Riddle is a laid and hilarious! He is even funnier during office hours! I genuinely enjoyed his class and learned so much! If you're a pre med student wanting to take this class for an easy A, then this might be a boring class for you. Exams are essay format (about 9 questions), but they are easy as long as you do the SG. He also gives EC.

Great professor, very interesting class. Attendance is very helpful. he doesn't try to trick you on tests, the lab is 40% of the grade and is a very attainable A just a lot of memorization which actually isn't that hard. The class is not hard at all i would take him again!

Study lecture notes and you should get an A. Concepts more important than memorization of all the mammal names. Save that for lab. Great professor. Can't wait to take biogeography with him next semester.

Took him for Biogeography, liked him so much that I took Mammalogy too. Very helpful, super clear about what material is important, lectures and powerpoints are very thorough. I didn't buy the Biogeography text, still got an A. He puts powerpoints online with key words replaced by ? marks, just take some basic notes and they're easy to decipher.

Great class. GO TO CLASS! I barely used the textbook & I struggled on an exam when I missed a class. Lab is pretty easy and doesn't really last the entire time. All exams are essays and he's kinda a tough grader but Dr. Riddle is a great prof! Offers some EC opportunities. Wasn't really excited to take the class at first but I loved it in the end!

I REALLY enjoyed this class. I tried to attend every lecture and it really helped. The book was boring but his notes were helpful. He gives "templates" as notes and you read the book to fill in notes. It helped me remember the material better. He is a funny teacher and is really interested in the topic... it made me interested too! Laid back gu

Biogeography was the most boring and pointless class that I have taken at UNLV. The lectures were superficial and disjointed, and it seems as though biogeography is a "manufactured" science completely disconnected from anything meaningful.

Lecture sucks because its boring. However, you have to show up and take notes. The book (which he wrote) is so beyond boring it hurts, however it helps a lot to read it. If you just read the chapters you can get a B.

Great instructor, great class, but be prepared to study and memorize many taxonomic names (this comes with the scope of the class though). Tons of fun, field trips, and you learn a lot. He's a true biologist--make sure you go on the field trip, you'll see a side you would have never expected!
