Easy 100 level history course, I went to about half of the lectures and wrote both papers the morning they were due and ended up with an A.

I absolutely loved this class, and Prof. Hawke ;) The only problem I had in this class was keeping myself from daydreaming, although his lectures were riveting and insightful. Keep up with the readings and going to class often is a very good idea. And don't put off writing your papers till the last minute!

Hawke is by far my favourite professor on campus. His lectures are entertaining, he expects his students to work hard and his tests are challenging, like they should be. One of the most reasonable individuals I have ever met as well; if you are having trouble, TALK TO HIM and he is more than happy to help you out.

If you want an A, you need to work for it, but Professor Hawke explains everything thoroughly and gets the class involved in their studies. Be prepared to read and write at a college level. However, this class was very interesting and Prof. Hawke made himself available if you needed help. This class was a worth it, by far!

I had Jason Hawke as a TA when he was a PhD candidate at the University of Washington. He's the reason I became a history major. He's extremely intelligent, helpful, funny, and I had a terrible crush on him for years. You are a lucky group, NIU History students!

For a 100 level gen ed class, he requires FAR too much reading each week, almost disregarding that we have other classes too.I consider myself a very good student and found if very hard to budget my time to be able to do the reading he assigns in addition to my other class work. When you finally think you are done with the readings, more is assigned.

Prof. Hawke is a great teacher. He's very helpful when it comes to the paper assignments and is very interesting in his lectures. To pass this class you need to attend them and read all the outside material to get an A or a B. Make sure for the discussions you have in class that you read the material he assigns.

Professor Hawke is how I think all college professors should be: He is extremely knowledgeable on his subjects, he is a very funny man, and he is always willing to help and answer questions. Of course you do need to do the work to fit into his class. I plan on taking one of his classes again later on, he's that great to be in class with.

He definitely knows a lot about the subject. If you study for exams (he gives you a study guide) you will do fine. He's also pretty attractive as professors go.

After taking 300 last year with him and realizing that you really DO need to read for the tests, my second class with Hawke has been so much easier. I aced the test and am doing really well no because I'm going to class and keeping up with the readings. Just look at what he gives you on the study guide and actually pay attention to it to pass.

Ok, I never really went to class, but I know it is pretty hard. There is a bunch of reading and a lot to keep up on. His lectures are fairly interesting, but I did not find them to be very helpful on the tests. I just used wikipedia.org to look up and study for the tests. There are two papers and two tests. Got a C, not bad for never showing up.

Amazing class with an amazing professor! It's hard, but what can one expect for a 300 level history course? I'm not a history major at all, but I found it informative. I learned a lot! I've taken hawke before, and I highly recommend him if you have to take any history class ever!

Awesome teacher, loves the subject and makes it even more interesting. One midterm (take home essay), final (just like his 110 final) and a 10 pg research paper. Very helpful and really knows his stuff...i mean REALLY...it's a little scary at times.

Prof. Hawke is a GREAT teacher, one of the best that I've ever had. He's very clear, the tests are hard, and there are two papers that you have to put some thought into. History major should expect this. If I wasn't focusing in US history, I would change to Greek or Roman because of this man.
