She is an incredible professor and Northern is really lucky to have her. You have to write 2 papers a week, and participation is vital to pass. This course broadens your worldview and makes you a better writer. English majors and minors should take this course.

Comment:

Dr. Singh is a strong voice and excellent woman, but she can be disorganized and hard to reach. If you're a self-starter with lots of initiative you'll be fine, but she doesn't do detailed assignment sheets or extensive feedback. Her classes are discussion heavy with lots of reading, but she brings excellent knowledge and passion to the room.

Instead of reading multiple genres we only read feminist novels from the same era (ex: Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice). Every week you have to write a 1 page paper on the reading as well as 2 large papers focusing on just 1 novel. If these papers did not have her opinion on the matter it was just wrong. So write with her ideas and participate!

My one suggestion to anyone looking into taking a class by this professor. DON'T DO IT! It was a complete waste of my time.We couldn't email her, she gave hardly any feedback. We pretty much had to teach ourselves, and she worried more about citing than if we were really learning anything. She also acted like we were stupid when we asked questions.

Took online course - I am quite a good writer ( I have had an A in every other English course I have taken) Except this one. She didn't like what I had to say. Her class is mostly an argument for feminism and how white (english) people ruined her country. (India). She gives a very heavy work load and grades hard

Did not like her... Took an online summer course with her and not only did we have a paper due every day, but when the big essay papers were due, she didn't like what I had to say. It wasn't that I couldn't back up what I was saying with proof, she just didn't agree with it. When asked specifically for help, I got nothing. Don't take her.

Jaspal is the best teacher I have had at this school. She approaches material in a unique and interesting way. If you are looking for an easy "A" and are not willing to put work into your work this is not the teacher for you, but if you want to learn something substancial, her classes are guarenteed to make you think.

Not a very nice woman...VERY MOODY, and kind of a B*tch. Grades hard, and basically expects the students to "teach" the class...always interupts you, even during a presentation. Rude, opinonated, and doesn't have a positive outlook on others opinions. It's an OKAY class....WARNING to students....

Dr. Singh can really push you to think critically and analyze the material. She encourages open diaglogues in this class which I always appreciate in a prof. I thought she was a fair grader and she seems to asses grades based on the individual and what she thinks they are capable of. She can be tough at times but I think it's worth walking away from the class having actually learned something.

Took her in 211 and 375, they turned out to be pretty much the same class. I couldn't manage to get lower than an A- in any papers, even if they were horrible. In that aspect, go for the class. If you want to learn more than to hate the system and whitey, I wouldn't recommend her.

Jaspal has favorites, lucky for me i was one of them. but she's not helpful, and EVERYTHING comes back to racism... she's very clear she thinks minoritys arent treated well, which is true in some cases, but SOME OF US arent like that. Damn. Give us a chance.
