Comment:

I had taken a different teacher for 1406, and had passed it with an A. I recorded every lecture, every bit she talked about in lab, and reviewed them each weekend as well as studied the chapters the night before classes, and the highest grade I recieved on a test was a 59. Her essay questions which were weighted heavier than the m/c were confusing.

Comment:

I took Biology 1406 and 1407 with her. The first semester was very tough, I absolutely hated it! However, I did learn a lot of material. She pushes you to learn, and actually memorize the material. Which actually helps a lot, not only in this classes, but other classes. DON'T BE SCARED TO TAKE HER CLASS. IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

FYI, I became her SI. She will throw you into the deep end and make you learn. It's sink or swim. She's old school and I absolutely love her for it because you will have to really learn the material. Participate in lecture or she won't care about you! Excellent preparation for graduate level courses. I'm really going to miss her!

Bio with Dr. De Schweinitz was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken, but it is possible if you're willing to put in hours and hours of hard work and studying. You must be willing to read the text book if you want to do well in this class because that's where she gets her test questions from.

Very hard grader. Only reason why its hard to past her is because her exam questions are tricky. Atleast two of the answers are correct but she wants the best answer so thats hard on students.

Dr. de Schweinitz is awesome! She is up-front about what she expects and what you need to do. She is really very kind, but isn't going to coddle people who don't do their part. She is passionate about what she does and therefore easy to learn from! Do your work, pay attention, and you will come out better for having taken her class.

Dr. D is an AMAZING teacher there is no doubt about that, she really knows what she is talking about. She can be a little intimidating at first but she gets nicer. So STUDY! She writes out notes as she lectures so take notes. Her tests are hard but they are multiple choice and essay form. Study hard and read and you will do well in her class.

Dr. D loves her students, she is intimidating and weeds out the chumps. She doesn't tolerate slackers but will empower you if you are motived and/or need encouragement. she turned me into a real student. i HAD to read the book, and HAD to study for the tests. To make an A, simply take good notes during lecture, and read the book extensively.

This class can be easy if you study A LOT. Study lecture notes AND the book. The tests are difficult. If you bomb the first two, take her advice and drop because it doesn't get any easier. She will help IF YOU ASK. Do the extra credit, because it (and your lab grade) could save you. I did none of it and got a B. DON'T FORGET TO STUDY FOR THE FINAL!

Dr.D demands a lot from her students during the summer, so be prepared spend A TON of time on her class. She really knows biology and presents it in a way that is understandable. Her tests are very difficult, but study and read ahead of time. While she is tough, she does care about her students.

can be really insulting. Maybe she's more approachable and encouraging during the fall and spring but she wasn't with us. Seems to think she knows who's gonna pass and fail too. I'm just over this whole class. I'm not failing but I know I worked my ass off and deserve a better grade. That's another thing absolutely no review for tests in lecture.

Dr. D is one of the best professors you'll have. She's extremely tough, but you've got to do the work and show her you're making an effort to learn the material and in return she'll help you as much as she can. Don't take this class unless you're very serious about it, but if you are, you'll gain a lot from it.

She is a great teacher! I got 2 A in both classes with her. But I have to study a lot. Do the extra credit. Don't come to class if u don't read the book before. Part 2 is easier than part 1, but you have to read her notes carefully because the topics of the essays are the same her note. Pay attention to the picture in her notes. Good luck.

Follow-up to 7/7/11 comments-did I mention that I BOMBED 2 out of 3 of the tests she gave and that the Biology for Majors 2 class was on-line! So, that A, I worked my tail off for that and DID THE EXTRA CREDIT!! Can not emphasize enough how important it is to do the extra credit. Dr. DeS cares about her students; only take her if you are serious!

My first professor after 30yr hiatus from school-SHE IS THE BEST! Took her Biology for Majors 1 and 2; did ALL the extra credit (ALL OF IT!!) got a B the first semester and an A second semester! She is very thorough; you are prepared for any advanced science class after her class. Don't take this class if u aren't prepared to work! Learn to write!

Took her Majors Bio 2 course, web lecture/on-campus lab. Very thorough teacher, BUT I would've chosen a different class if I'd known about the fruit fly project. Lots of group work, and you'll be reprimanded if you don't take the vials home... You'll also be scorned if you are absent, regardless of your grade. Made a B, which is low for me.
