Comment:
Lectures were impossible to follow and felt like an eternity, she rambled on about the topic at hand in the vaguest way. Discussion is the only thing worth attending, as it prepares you for tests/exams and the TA hints at what you need to focus on for essay Qs. Participation in discussion is an easy 30% of the grade. Exams are easy to study for.

She had her TA grade the two tests which were a midterm and final, they consisted of 35% and 40% of your grade. The class is hard to find structure in because she just keeps talking and it becomes hard to follow. She assigns a lot of reading and it's almost useless for the exams. She rarely uses notes.

Not going to lie, when I took my 1st class with JQ Fall 15 I hated her I thought she was terrible and I even gave her a 1.0 rating. I ended up taking my senior seminar with her this past Spring and it was the greatest decision she was a completely different person. She is very smart, a bit intimidating, but well worth it.

She's clearly well read and knowledgeable in the subject, very well published too. However, she does not stay on topic, expects a class of 70+ students to have a chance at participating when she talks over the students and interrupts frequently, albeit kindly. Very nice woman, but cannot teach at all. Avoid taking a class with her.

I went to every single lecture and did all readings and I still had no idea what she wanted me to write on the midterm and final. Avoid her classes at at all cost. Her grading is extremely unclear, and her lectures are scatterbrained. She's extremely intelligent, but cannot teach.

You are only graded on midterm, final, and an "internet assignment" as well as participation & attendance (sign in every class). In the beg. of the semester I was glad to be in her class, she seemed very passionate. BUT, you're not allowed to have your own a opinion, she cuts you off mid sentence every time. Very rude, condescending, & ignorant.

Do not take this class. Her lectures are always pointless. She assigns tons of readings every week and we discuss them in our section, but what she teaches in the lectures are always not on point with the discussions. Tests are always essays. She only rambles in class and you learn nothing from her.

A teacher who is adept at closing the minds of students. No need to pay attention to mandatory lecture because grades come from discussion. Tests are all subjective essays and class scope is too broad and generalized. She is more a nanny than a college teacher. Again, google could provide greater education. But that don't make colleges any money...

Prof Quataert is nice and passionate about the subject, but she tends to ramble. Lectures are mandatory and only rarely helpful. Assigns way to much reading, and it should be a writing assignment for all the papers and tests are 80% essay. The discussions are only good if you get a good TA. I did not like mine, she was often rude and condescending

Dr. Quataert is very intelligent, and a terrific professor. She is passionate about the subject and genuinely cares about her students. The class requires a lot of work, but Dr. Quataert is always willing to help, and the TAs are very kind. I enjoyed the class.

Took Hist 130A for my G gen ed, and absolutely loved the class. JQ is a great professor with a lot of enthusiasm though she can ramble. Definitely worth taking the class even if you're not a history major. Easy A

Took her Modern World History class. Assigned readings were interesting, but she assigns a lot of reading, so be prepared for that. The lectures are not very useful. I attended, but she rambles and doesn't seem to prepare much ahead of time. She's really nice and passionate about what she teaches.

I really enjoyed her class. She's enthusiastic about what she teaches, which I understand for some people, can be overwhelming. You have writing assignments due every discussion based on the huge amount of reading, but as long as you get the major themes, it's fine. Her exams are reasonable, just pay attention in class and catch all her points

I'm a bit surprised to see negative reviews for Human Rights Since 1945. I am a Philosophy major, so I'm not too familiar with other classes in the History department, but I thought that she was an excellent teacher. Her energy and enthusiasm for the topic was really refreshing. All of the readings were excellent and the tests were eminently fair.

I do not recommend taking a class with this professor. She is very passionate about what she teaches, but does not teach it well. Prof. Quataert assigns readings as if it's the only class you're taking. I did have a great TA, which helped a lot.

I don't ever post on this. I have a 4.0 GPA in my history major, so normally I assume what's on here isn't accurate because I know my stuff. I don't know my grade in this class yet, but I can tell you we have read endless books and as I sit here the night before the final I have no idea how to prepare for this final or what I am going to get.

She is OK. Take her "Modern World Hist" class if you are a complete idiot and it will help you a little. Otherwise it is an easy A for the lazy who wish to fulfill their Harpur "W". She is nice but can overly optimistic about the world.

JQ may be smart but her lectures are terrible. It is stated in the syllabus that they are not required but thats a lie. The TA is what matters, if you get Sandra, sorry. She is rude and relates every topic to women's rights. If you miss any discussions she will spend most of the lecture complaining or questioning as to where you were. Drop it.
