Burnett is a WONDERFUL woman. Like someone else here said : YOU MUST READ YOUR BOOKS BEFORE GOING TO CLASS, or else you will not know what she's talking about and will be lost. You will be tested from both books. Dr.Burnett ONLY supports the book information, you MUST read the books to learn. Overall, I really like Dr.Burnett. She is AWESOME !!

Dr. Burnett is fantastically friendly. BUT her instruction is not necessarily user-friendly. She does not teach straight out of the book. Her method is more like supplemental instruction, to aid in understanding what you read. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO is read your books before class. This will help you understand what she is talking about.

Horrible! She read us her fav. books and never went over the materials covered for the exam. Self teaching class! Spacey woman who cares more about the "love of books" then teaching us anything valuable! Do not take!!

I should have looked at this site before I took her class. She is a great person and she might be a good elementary teacher, but she should not be teaching college. Tests are very hard and can be on minor things she says about the books shown. Dont expect to have any say in your grade, because the tests are ridiculous no matter how much you study.

She is not a bad person but not a great teacher. You really have to dig deep to really understand what she is talking about. You need your textbook and that really helps. Not a hard class at all as long as you are willing to sit through her rants and raves. Just okay.

I have no idea why Dr. Burnett has such bad ratings. She is a wonderful professor and a genuine lady. People who write negative things are prob. just impatient and if they are then they should change their major. She is used to working with children so sometimes she speaks like we are babies, but she means well.VERY helpful and very caring!!

I think Jeanie gets a bad rap because she is used to teaching children, so adults find her weird. I thought she was wonderful. If you truly want to teach and love to read, you will appreciate Jeanie. She is a sweet lady, and her tests are cake if you study!

Well, basically I have the same opinion as everyone else on here. Flighty, crazy, and teaches you NOTHING. Ended up with an incorrect final grade and she decided to just brush it off and not seriously look at her mistake. Terrible class.

Such a bad teacher,you pretty much teach yourself. The only reason she takes attendance is so if there is a fire she knows where everyone is. It is a waste of time to go to class. Lots of her tests are online though

Worst professor I've had at KU. We do nothing in class and who knows where she gets the material she puts on her tests. She is a sweet lady but a terrible teacher. For such an important class, it is ridiculous how much I had to teach myself and how little I learned from her. Complete waste of time.

Class is a complete waste of time.all she does is read childrens books to you and go on complete tangents.its a joke The material is taughtafter we are tested on it.You need to read the book and teach yourself in order to do well on her tests.Make sure to know the authors and names of books read in class, because they will be on the test

I will say this with all honesty. I had her for Fundamentals (ELU 300) and that class was a joke BUT Burnett is 100% better in her other classes specifically for reading concentrations like ELU 311. That class was super easy and easy A unlike the fundamentals where I struggled to get a B.

Hands down the worst class I've ever taken in my life. Absolute joke. She doesn't teach anything that I don't already know through common sense. Thankfully she let us take two exams on line so we could use our books but still, class is a waste of time. She speaks to you like you are 5. She pointed out to our class last month that Dr. King is BLACK.

Oh, Burnett! She is one of the loveliest women I've ever met. Genius, huge heart. However, she lives on her own planet, she's really crazy. Don't expect her to teach you anything, or classes to be structured. No tests, projects are easy. Not a great professor, but I love her!
