The class is an introduction to civil, environmental, and structural engineering. Professor Darby introduced many speakers from different fields to talk about their fields and research while also assigning homework which developed skills that will be helpful later on. She was willing to help students with problems unrelated to the course.

This class can be an Easy A if you want it to. She gives a lot of optional extra credit that goes towards your final which can get you out of taking it in the end. She legit grades 120+ assignments so don't think you're slick lol. Make friends with people in your lab, they're gonna come in clutch! Overall, the class is fun especially the labs!

Find your study group quickly and visit office hours for help. You could easily miss small components from the lecture and get stuck on the homeworks easily. Don't run away cause you hate Chemistry. This one is specifically designed for us Civil Engineers.

Not a lot of homework, focuses on professionalism, hard grader. The majority of lectures were by guest speakers, and after they spoke, we'd write 3 strong sentence paragraphs (thesis, evidence, support) that were out of 2 points. They add up, so try to do well on those. Labs were very fun! During mine, she came in to watch a watermelon get crushed!

Professor Darby can be intimidating at first, but as the corse continues you really start to see that Prof. Darby is caring about her students. Her grading criteria is not always clear, so go to office hours and she will help you. It is also helpful VERY helpful to have basic knowledge of forces and Microsoft Excel. Overall she is a good professor

Great professor. Darby gives out notes during lecture, so you won't need the textbook. Homework is based on her notes and she's very helpful during office hours. In my opinion the midterm wasn't too bad and final was on the tougher side because there were a lot of problems, but they were fair and basically reflected the notes and homework.

This class consists of mostly guest lectures used to introduce students to the 5 branches of civil engineering. Attendance is mandatory as you are required to write and turn in one sentence each lecture. The class is very structured and very easy.

ECI 003 was a wonderful course to take by professor Darby even though she was not teaching at all times. It made me even more interested in specialties that I had thought boring before hand. Also it's an almost guaranteed A in her class as long as you attend lecture and spend a couple hours on the few homework assignments.

Lots of extra credit work: going to prof & TA office hours, research on guest profs. She has guest speakers where she asks you to write a one-sentence summary on them which is graded a bit harshly by TAs. The homework is quite easy. TAs and her office hours are crowded so start homework before and get it checked by them waaaay before the deadline.

The material is not hard. Expect a lot of homework and assignments. She is clear in her lectures and makes the material interesting. You can tell she loves what she is doing and she is always there to help you. Wouldn't recommend if you are not a civil engineering major.

I really liked Professor Darby. She was cute, smart, funny, and she made an exceptional effort to remember everyone in class. I would take another class from her again without question. She really sticks out among the other engineering professors.

This class is all about participation and attendance. The final is 25% of your grade, if you study you will be fine; the class had plenty of perfect scores. The work can be time consuming (twice I had to stay up past 4 am), but straightforward (got 100 on both). She clearly outlines how to get an A; do the work and do it on time, and you're fine.

This class made me decide that I wanted to pursue a career in water treatment. The class itself is tough and challenges your chemistry knowledge. Homework is cumbersome, yet she is very helpful in office hours. Awesome class taught by a genius of a teacher.

You get 2 chance to pass the final. This course relies heavily on how well you can right a good 1 sentence summary so if english isn't your thing, you will struggle. That being said Professor Darby will go over your summaries with you if you are struggling and will review you final essay at the end of the quarter. Alot depends on your TA too.

I took Darby's ECI 3 class twice. I have a love-hate relationship with her. She's a great teacher, but really particular about what she expects from her students. The course work isn't hard, but sometimes you'll need her or the TAs help - and that's ok. Abrasive personality aside, you'll enjoy her introductory class. Work hard and you'll do fine.

Darby wasn't friendly during office hours. This intro course to Civil Engineering is hardly useful. Guest lectures all day. Her practice exams were enough to get an A- on the final.

Professor Darby is a very nice lady that is fun and engaging. She is very helpful during office hours and is interested in helping you to succeed. Her grading is tough and meticulous so watch out for that. Labs were extremely fun, and no textbook required. Make sure to study and practice problems just like any other class and you'll be fine.
