Not a great lecturer. As far as teachers go, I'd put him in the middle or higher end of bad. Readings were alrite. Hard grader though and kind of obnoxious about attendance. I would not take another class with him personally.

Jed is a really good guy, just he expects too much from his students. Expect to read a lot. The essays are actually really hard and he grades super hard. Must be ready to sleep, eat, and breath Judaism if you want to get a decent grade. Interesting class just the workload was not worth it.

Jed's nice but his class can be too much reading for some. Also I was frustrated that on our midterm we were only tested on 1 of the 5 books we read-- the Silmarillion. And our final was basically the same. Feels more like a book club than a class. Lecturesclass discussion were sometimes boring. But at least the reading itself was fun.

I like Jed a lot as a person, but his teaching style could use some improvement. He assigns too much reading and generally moves too fast. He'd be better off assigning less work and then spending more time developing the important concepts. I'm not sure if he knows this, but students do register for his courses because they think they sound fun.

Aside from a deep interest in the material, he's a perfect example of mediocrity. He's a nice guy and I'm sure he means well, but he's also a little juvenile. He gives the overall impression of one who believes himself to be an actual genius, in spite of ample evidence to the contrary. I found myself wondering why he isn't teaching at a J.C.

Worst class I've ever taken. Lectures put me to sleep. His power points were bland. Tests weren't too bad just a lot of memorizing. A lot of reading and homework assignments. I somehow pulled out a B. The class isn't hard at all just super boring and if you don't have the slightest bit of interest in the subject, it will be a long semester.

This class is fun and laid back, however you learn a lot at the same time. If you are into Greek/Biblical/Medieval literature and art, this is a good class. It is very interactive, and at the most you will only have to write a 3 page essay on how you interpret art/literature. It is worth taking.

this class is AWFUL! I was looking forward to learning about the class topic-"Jews, Muslims in the West", but he makes it so dry, so boring, and gives exponential amounts of homework. I am a pre-nursing student with a heavy work load, but this class gives WAY more work and memorization than my science classes...DO NOT take this class

jed was quite possibly the most understanding and helpful teacher i have had. as long as you tried and did the reading you had a great shot at getting an A. get to know him via office hrs and it becomes eaiser. and he is not a tough grader either

Jed likes it if you come to class. he's a nice guy but his grading policy isn't great. i got some of the highest grades on papers and tests but he gave me a b because i didn't go for the first half of the semester (it's at 9:30 in the morning for goodness sake).
