He is passionate about political theory and you can tell just in the way he discusses the material in class. That being said he does like to refer to the readings in class so you need to be on top of those, loves to give pop quizzes on set readings. Overall great class, you learn a lot but not easy GE, so take another cause this class isn't easy.

Professor Miller is SO intelligent it's unreal. He does speak fast and you need to copy down everything he says (definitely take notes on your laptop, it helps so much). As long as you take good notes and ask him to clarify anything you don't understand, you'll do fine (just don't take it as a GE like I did, super hard as a GE).

Hands-down the best professor I've ever had. He will make you understand political philosophy. He can go fast and use words you've never even heard before, but just ask him and he's happy to explain. You definitely need to stay up on the reading to get a decent grade in the class, since the lectures are entirely based off them and you'll be quizzed

Jeff Miller is super smart. Political theory is clearly his passion. However, he often talks faster than you can write and you must keep up with the reading. Also prior knowledge of ancient Greece won't kill you. Socrates will never be the same. It's super educational but stressful as heck.

Comment:
Miller is a very smart and passion for political theory is unparalleled. His lectures are very clear given the anachronistic writing of the theorists he teaches. He gives a very level headed and clear picture of the entire political spectrum and will make you think. However, he grades a bit too roughly and expects that you care as much as he does

Participation is key to any of Miller's classes. He's well likedrespected amongst students and very helpfulhands-on, but does not tolerate a lack of participation and an unwillingness to learn. Be prepared to read and work in the class, but also expect to learn and gain enlightenment by the end of it. What you gain will not be forgotten quickly.

Study groups, good in class notes and keeping up with the readings are essential for this class. Prof Miller even came to some of the study groups to help us more. He loves participation and wants you to ask questions. He's a great professor, talks a little too fast, but is very knowledgeable on the material and wants to see you do well.

Miller was really interesting and engaging for a class that would be extremely boring without him. The readings could be difficult but he gave helpful feedback. Not too much hw but you are expected to keep up with the readings - he discuses them throughout every class. He is clear with what he wants, but seems positively concerned with learning.

Professor Miller revived my interest in politics by introducing me to theory. Not only is he intelligent within his subject, he is intelligent at life. He's dedicated, enthusiastic, and has a sense of humor. If you want to listen, learn, and grow, take a class with Miller. If you want to skip class and party, stay away. For everyone's sake.

Professor Miller was an interesting teacher. He relied heavily on the course readings and gave tough assignments. However he was very willing to try and make the material clearer and tried to make the lectures as relative to contemporary times as possible. Overall he wasn't that bad.
