A challenging class that requires critical thinking and time devotion, but will make you a better programmer at the end. Do the labs to completion every week & save them for reference. Use lecture/lab slides to get almost everything needed to do new labs/projects. Study for tests based on given outlines. Start on projects as soon as assigned.

Had this teacher for multiple classes. Verdict: AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! 100% HONESTY, he is one of the hardest teachers to please. Grading is WAY TOO CRITICAL, no feedback for assignments on what was wrong or why, has THE WORST late assignment policy(30%day), & lectures were USELESS for his UNNECESSARILY HARD assignments. Would not recommend EVER!!

With little knowledge of PHP coming in, I was at a loss for the first half of the semester. Learning hard code construct is to be done on your own time, and you'll be looked at sort of like an idiot if you ask for help often enough. Labs weren't graded, but many tests and projects throughout. Really, he's okay, minus the syntax issue.

I went to his office several times. He never once helped me and instead answered my direct questions with a question. He WILL not help you with homework or labs at all. Be prepared for a terrible class.

No focused on lecture,he lost point of lecture and spread the lecture ,doesnt follow a way to teach.he mixes the lectures.sometimes he wastes the time and talking about previous easy lectures appereantly he comes unprepared.lectures and quizes not too bad but he always find a reason to not to give you the point.when you ask he even cant explain why

I really like Prof. Roach. He is from Jamaica, and has a noticeable accent, but not something that is hard to overcome. I found the class very easy, but part of it is probably my past programming experience. Tests and quizzes aren't incredibly difficult. I would recommend him.

Nice guy, but tends to go through the material too quickly. The projects are extremely detailed requiring information we have not yet covered. Lenient grading scale is a plus though. I would really only recommend this prof. if you have prior programming knowledge.

Had no trouble understanding his accent. But his programming projects were ridiculous. Took way too much time; spare time that a full-time student shouldn't have anyway. Projects often needed stuff that we hadn't even covered in class. Often singled students out and displayed their mistakes. Lenient grading, though.

He's from Jamaica so there is a small language barrier at the beginning. Quickly overcome that. He jumps around on hard topics and reiterates the easy topics. Avoid this prof if you actually want to learn the material. Take him if you want an easy grade.

Notes are clear and to the point. Very knoweldgeable and conveys points effectively even with a strong accent :p Only con is that the programming tests were all written and no lab, but that is probably a departmental issue.

Very effective teaching method. Tests are extremely vague and unclear. Midterm consisted of creating unspecified Rose diagrams and a req analysis. Final had 55 points on two questions... Didn't know them, got screwed.

I heard he was a pretty good undergraduate professor. Mr. Roach is a HORRIBLE graduate professor. Has no knowledge of the subject and is very disorganized. A complete waste of time and money. Very disappointed
