I had a lot of prior coding experience, so Intro to Java was incredibly easy for me. I can see how some students without coding knowledge struggle with him. 25% of grade is attendance, so show up to class! Final was long, but quite easy due to open book/notes/quizzes.

Dr. Blessing is a good professor because he knows his stuff, but he is not very helpful in the means of explaining coding concepts or different functions. He also gets off on tangents a lot. His class is long but as long as you do the assignment, it is an EASY A.

Blessing is one of the worst professors at MSOE. He really needs to plan and pace his classes better and actually explain concepts. He is often unprepared for class, copies and pastes code of W3 Schools because he doesn't even know what hes doing. He is woefully incompetent. The only upside is that he is a pushover. Use it to your advantage.

Have you ever wanted to come to a lecture to have a professor read off of a Wiki page for half an hour? Well, you've come to the right place. This class and many others taught by this professor are very detailed oriented and not practical. Practical use of the material would make his classes great, but consider any assignment busy work...

Dr. Blessing provides students with an easy to understand, self-paced model for complex topics. His teaching style takes getting used to as you have to pay close attention to everything he says with little hope of understanding if you do not.

Java classes and computer concepts courses are explained well. Dr. Blessing has an intimate understanding with communications concepts and their business implications and is able to articulate them well in a class room environment. When taken out of element, however, Dr. blessings courses suffer from lack of comprehensible content.

The man is pretty much brilliant but a little hard at times for him to dumb it down for all of us. BUT he is defintely willing to help multiple times, use his labs and his office hours. Grades fairly, just be sure to have a friend help you and you'll be set.

Like others had said, Blessing is VERY confusing to those of us that have no prior programming knowledge. Classes are a waste of time because you only feel more lost then you already were. Yes, he is always there to help you, but he's not much help becuase, again, he just confuses you more. Get a friend to help you like I did.

Dr. Blessing is a great guy and he is extremely helpful one on one. I will admit that sometimes he is a bit confusing or vague in class, but he is certainly available to give a better explaination. He makes a great effort to make the material stick by connecting real world applications.

well i have had blessing for probably 10 classes thus far. At first you really don't like him. but once you have had him several times, you see he really is a pretty easy prof. He may not be very clear sometimes as to what he wants. but overall he grades pretty fairly.

The worse instructor ever and I use the term instructor loosely because he doesn't teach, he assigns homework and gives tests. If you don't have programming experience, this class is nearly impossible to pass unless you develop psychic abilities.

Unix with blessing... make sure you get used to wildcards and filters. The class is easy if you open the book and do the labs, but blessing doesn't know too much. you ask a question about a lab, and he has to look it up an figure it out and get back to you.

He is very smart, but he doesn't explain the material very well to non-programmer students. The only reason I did well in the class was because I've already had two years of programming. If you have programming experience, this is an awesome class, but if you don't -- BEWARE (and find a tutor).
