Comment:
Dr. Powell doesn't make attendance mandatory, but you HAVE to go if you want to pass the class. Usually the class is twice a week - on one of the days you have a quiz, no exceptions, and on the other he lectures the whole time. If you are a religious person I would be wary, it is evident he has other views. He has a great sense of humor though!

My favorite professor. He may treat you as if you are already an expert philosopher, however. Which can be... difficult. He WILL spend three classes explaining the same thing if you want him to. Very nice and knows more than your average Marshall professor, to be quite frank. Will take him again and again.

Dr. Powell is a good guy. He means well. However, every class I attended we went 5minutes over. He goes on and on. It is so boring and confusing if you do not enjoy philosophy. I never read any of the books, just showed up for class and did the homework with help from Google. The exams are easy. It's an easy class, just show up.

Unless you just completely miss everything talked about in class, you'll pass. Te class isn't really that hard so long as you at least attempt to read the sections, and do the writing assignments. Dr. Powell may be rather confusing, but he's still a nice guy, and I would probably take a class offered by him again.

He's a cool dude, however the material is boring & difficult to understand. There is a lot of reading, & assignments due every class. You don't really learn much.

It was just read the book and discuss with students. He didn't penalize students for waiting until the last min. to discuss, meaning you had to stay up until midnight to make sure you met the requirement. Tests were VERY hard and you couldn't see which you got wrong. Submitted discussion grades all at once so you couldn't see how you were doing.

I struggled in this class. When someone would ask a question he would spend ten minutes trying to answer it but I would just leave confused. Reading the books are key to understand what he talks about in class. Though attendance is not mandatory it is really, REALLY helpful to go but take a nap before you go.

Easy class, never even picked up my books and I aced all the tests. The quizzes were sort of obnoxious, but you only need to do a quarter of them to get above a C. The professor was useless and refused to communicate test dates or assignment information when I had excused absences.

Dr. Powell is by far my favorite professor at MU so far. Understand that his class is extremely hard, but if you read the books a few times over, then you might be able to get a B. Most people don't understand him which is why alot don't like him. He is the smartest person i've ever met, hands down. I would recommend to anyone who wants a challenge

I am taking this class to get my RBA. I am a Health care major. The topic of the discussions was interesting and the book has interesting case studies, but, the tests are incredibly difficult. I took this class online. If I had taken it in a classroom with a live lecture, the tests may not have been as difficult as they were. Take it in class!

If you want to doubt your very existance take this class. Seriously its that abstract. Some of the material particurally Kant was rated by sparknotes as unreadable.

Book is terrible. Very difficult to read. Very relevant class for health care majors. Weekly discussions which were easy and 4 exams, not too bad. Took on-line and would recommend. Responded quickly to e-mails.

I thought professor Powell was an awesome teacher. The reading material can be very difficult to understand but I have never felt so comfortable asking questions to a professor in class. He tries his best to explain the material. Tests can be easy if you thoroughly read the material and understand it. The class is what you make of it. Great class!

I found this online class challenging. The tests are difficult compared to others I have taken online. Be sure to take your own notes and summarize main points from the book in addition to what he provides as lecture notes.

Dr. Powell is a very nice man who happens to be very knowledgeable on the subject he teaches. The material takes some getting used to but he explains everything in class if you ask questions. He is always willing to help you if you ask. I found this class easy. With a little effort an A is easy.

Look, if you're going to take this class online, tests are literally impossible. I am a straight A student, this class is not reccomeded, at all. BEWARE !!! I queried all students, and literally all replies said scores were 75 or lower, and that was on the high end, well, unless you happend to have a copy of his old exams. Avoid this guy!

Worth taking if you need a PHL credit. Slightly unclear to understand but, the subject itself is hard. Don't let the less the stellar ratings scare you. He really means well and is great help if you know how to ask the question. Nice guy overall!
