Comment:
Interesting class. We read a lot of gothic novels and explored their relationship to race. Fleischner is a very nice professor who cares about her students and is willing to meet with you to go over papers. However, she does grade extremely hard--sometimes I think her standards are a bit too high. But I still liked her & would take her again.

She has you write an essay each week, if you aren't a strong writer I wouldn't suggest taking this class. However, if you work hard on your writing she notices it and will give you a good grade.

We had papers due every monday and on Monday's we had to debate a topic in groups. It became a nuisance to write every paper due as an argumentative work. She's not a bad teacher just a lot of writing. If other options are open take someone else for Art and Craft of Writing

She's very informed on her profession, but seems to only have become a teacher to hear her own voice and talk about what she wants to talk about. She has the persona of "I'm the professor, I tell you what's correct". The class is interesting, but all it is is reading LONG (assigns novels in a weekend) and professor lead talks about it.

I'm assuming you're looking her up because you are a student debating on taking her class. Let me tell you now: If you have a GPA to maintain DO NOT TAKE HER. If you don't, take her. Her class is interesting. I won't lie about that. But her extremely rough and ridiculous grading is the reason I no longer attend this university.

I had L.I.E. II with her. It was the worst mistake of my life. I was never really found of poetry and she made me hate it. All we did was poetry, but last time I checked, poetry could have multiple meanings. She was always biased even though I would quote the text and show my analysis. She always has a biased opinion.

She truly knows what she is talking about. Though her class might seem boring, she has a lot to offer. If you put in your best she will give you the best grades. A very tough grader but will surely help you improve your writing. Must take this class.

One of the best Adelphi has to offer. Just pay attention and expand your mind, and you'll do fine. She refuses to hand you things on a silver platter, and that's what makes her brilliant.

she cares about social and ethnic issues and it shows through some of the selected texts. It's Refreshing cause for the most part english courses at AU mainly focus on boring british authors. not even the interesting ones. papers are easy, be insightful with essays. participate or ull b bored.

She is a sweet, sweet person and very easy to talk to outside of and after class. In class, she was kinda boring and dry. As far as grading goes, it was like i never knew what kind of grade i was going to get on the papers. I remember a lot of people who seemed smart getting poor grades on papers

Quirky professor with a lot to say. I don't know where others are getting that she "confronts you on your opinion", but she really doesn't. Just asnwer the topics clearly and you'll have no problem. She's a bit out there at times, but stay with her and it'll all make sense in the end. :-)

No class syllabus...if she doesn't agree with your point she competely destroys it...changes her mind a lot, so sometimes you don't even know what to do...overall she is very smart, but not to be teaching...
