Definitely a my way or the high way type of prof. She tends to input too much personal opinion instead of educational advice into students creative pieces, this definitely shows in her grading. I will admit she is accessible outside of class and willing to help, as long as you write her way(even if it goes against what you were taught by others)

This class isn't hard as long as you do the work. She makes it pretty clear as to what she's looking for in the papers and will help you to understand it better. She's a little quirky but a really nice and genuine teacher. For me, it was just a typical english class.

I am a senior now and I took Prof. Shimek's writing class my Freshman year. To this date, she is the worst and toughest professor I've ever had. Her class was the class I've worked the most for, yet she did anything she could to fail me because I missed class 5 times in the semester, 2 of them due to the death of my grandpa. DO NOT TAKE HER!

Professor Shimek is a hard grader, but she's very generous. If you work hard, an A is not hard. The test consist of analysis that you've already done in class. In addition, she allows you to correct your test and takes the highest grade. Takeher and save money on books! The book costs around 12 dollars.You'll be a better writer after taking her.

Prof Shimek is a tricky grader and you will write several papers analyzing arguments. However, she is helpful (if you attend class and tend to turn things in on time). She once spent 40 mins with me alone to correct a horrible outline after I was already 20 mins late to the meeting. You learn a lot and its worth it if you actually put forth effort.

She's really nice, and gives off sort of an 'old time but liberal and hip' vibe. xD She puts a lot of effort into evaluating your work, and gives detailed feedback about each assignment. The class is not easy; I was always really good at English and still struggled to make an A in the course. Double and triple check your work before submitting it!

Prof. Shimek is the best! Her teaching is extremely concise and well structured. She goes out of her way to help her students. Her charisma makes the class fun and interesting. She's somewhat easy, but you learn a lot.
