Comment:

Cline-Bailey's class was not my favorite. Though the readings are interesting, he lectures on moral issues. He doesn't give much room for students to discuss, but gets mad when people don't participate. He is a tough grader, doesn't use canvas and doesn't post grades. He is helpful during office hours if you utilize them. He tries hard.

-Bailey is the man! Easily one of the nicest English teachers I've ever had. He really makes class enjoyable and the books, well most of them are really good reads. You won't be able to put them down. Two papers are written and a project, but they aren't bad at all. One of the best English teachers @ Xavier!

Lectures were never boring, the books he selected for the class were actually really good, and he is a very fair grader. Besides reading and two papers, there isn't much to do for the class besides show up (he takes attendance daily). He is very funny, and obviously knows his stuff. I 100% recommend taking his class.

Cline-Bailey is awesome! So interesting to listen to! His lectures are never boring, not to mention he is hilarious. Books for this class were even interesting! 2 essays, 1 final essay, a few quizzes. EASY.

Cline-Bailey is great. The books he chose were interesting and the class discussions were thought provoking. He's good at playing devil's advocate. We had a few pop quizzes and group assignments. The papers weren't too bad. Cline-Bailey is a nice guy, just read the books and participate and you'll do fine. I highly recommend his class.

Basically, just read the SHORT stories and write you papers (2 of them). Some in-class group work and pop quizzes, but overall the class is easy and not overwhelming with work. JCB is also pretty cool and laid back! RECOMMEND!

Great professor! Class is all discussion, if you have a good class it'll go by fast. Doesn't randomly call on people. Pop quizzes. Hard grader on papers, but an easy class. Super cool guy!

Cline-Bailey is "average, but cool". He is sometimes funny and the life he has lived is very interesting to listen to. His class is only discussion based, and that is what you do for the entire semester: read 2 short stories and go discuss them in class. Usually he lets you out early. Good class, fair grader, only 2 papers and a few quizzes.

Cline-B is the man. He is really moody but most times he is a pretty chill guy originally from south africa. The class is CAKE. Take him over any other person. No long readings, just short 10 page stories and 2 essays during the year. He goes quick during sign up because all the athletes take him.

He is very interesting, intelligent, and humorus. Very knowlegeable about his literature. His class is far from boring. He has a strong passion for the subject which make his class very interesting. He is very strict about attendance. I love his accent.

Lectures are dull and cover only basics of material (but must attend), so do your reading. 2 exams, 1 paper, and 1 presentation determine grade, so don't bomb anything. Takes 6 questions out of 80 from textbook to put on exams, so %90 of your study time is wasted (ARGH!). Likes to be devil's advocate in class and wants you to do same in papers.

I really enjoyed Dr. Cline-Bailey's class. Class was based off of discussion and grades were composed of two papers, three pop quizs off of the readings and a final. Not too much work and defiantly worth it.

Took this class Fall 08-- very dull. It was a night class, which made the boredom difficult to endure. Talks at students- does not discuss. DOES NOT USE E-MAIL- which is very bothersome to grad students who live off-campus and have full-time jobs. Very antiquated-- does not use tech at all.

Do not take this professor at night! I have heard enough good things about him to give him the benefit of the doubt, but his attitude and tone are completely counterproductive after 6PM. He frequently drifts off, tells the same stories, and generally mopes about as if he had one foot in the grave. A disaster!
