Katherine is absolutely lovely. I found her to be a very fair grader on longer assignments, and her feedback is very helpful. The class was an intensely read heavy course. Absolutely participate in class discussions, even just to say what you liked or didn't like about the texts. Do NOT skip class.

Prof. Binhammer is a really engaging and interesting lecturer. It is a super reading heavy course. She's a tough but fair marker, and if you go talk to her she is super helpful and willing to help you improve. Take this class if you want to improve your writing and reading abilities, because Prof. Binhammer will help you with that.

Katherine is a fantastic professor. She is very knowledgable and passionate about what she teaches and that made the readings easier to go through. Although I will say there was a lot of readings, too much even.

Lectures are engaging despite the boring material/novels. I hated the amount of writing required. So much reading. Hard grading too. She was super nice and interesting to listen to but this is probably the most difficult English class I've ever taken.

Little intimidating at first and makes you work for a good grade. LOTS of reading (unrealistic amount) and you need to read it to do well so it makes the class hard but it was really engaging considering it's 18th century lit. She was open to class discussion and was prepared with lecture slides. Not too harsh marker, decent feedback given.

Katherine is phenomenal. I wasn't stoked to take 18th century literature, and she made it interesting and easy to engage. I was able to do writing in this class that I was really proud of, in no small part because of Katherine's willingness to hear me out about a strange idea and talk it through with me on multiple occasions. She's simply great.

I really enjoyed Professor Binhammer and regret not seeking her out for more of my undergrad courses at the U. Her lectures are interesting, and she made a topic that I hated (17th century lit) interesting! Even though I was originally a little bitter that she graded harder than other profs my essay writing improved bc of her.

Smart, interesting, and passionate, but an unfair marker. Enjoyed taking the class and Professor Binhammer was always happy to try and help students. However like many professors she would grade students as if they were masters students, as opposed to undergraduates. Also ignored criteria she set out and then claimed said criteria had not been met.

One of the best professors I've had in my 2 years at the U of A so far. The class was extremely interesting, but very challenging - in a good way. She's a tough marker but you will learn so much from her! One of the few professors who's actually made me feel like I'm REALLY in university.

Clear and interesting lectures. Sometimes too much text to cover: not only does she give many novels to read but she also posts huge articles each week. Therefore the in-class exams can be killer if you haven't read all the books thoroughly.

I think that if I had worked harder I would have liked the class more. I did try but she is quite a hard marker--not necessarily unfair. You can't get away with BS. I didn't like the discussions and she does put you on the spot, but if you're prepared you can get a lot out of this class for sure.

Katherine is a fantastic professor! Contrary to what you may hear, she is a very fair marker, and if you are willing to put the work into the class, she is more than willing to help and encourage you in any way she can, even if it means changing assignments to foster your personal strengths. She is fun, helpful, and so knowledgeable!!

did not enjoy this teacher, enjoyed the class. felt that she was very patronizing and graded unfairly, with vague guidelines and harsh criticism. grades suffered if you did extra work. not impressed.

Words can't describe how amazing she is...just take a class with her! She can be a little intimidating at first but make sure you stick around. she does expect a lot from her students, so be prepared to work extremely hard for a B+. But all in all, if you have a problem she's always willing to help you in any way she can.
