Comment:

This was a 5-week online class. The materials online were not organized, there were numerous typos and I had no idea what to do to be successful. No lectures at all. Prof was not involved or present. He even posted wrong answers on the discussion board. Be prepared to teach yourself. This professor is an embarrassment to UAA. Absolutely shameful.

I took his class online so I never actually spoke to him. The material is really unclear and you don't know what you're supposed to be reading. Nobody I know did well on his exams, and the only other assignments were discussion boards and they were only 15% of the grade. Overall, not the best.

This class was not my favorite, philosophy to me seems like a bunch of people arguing just to hear themselves talk. I took it because it was a GER. The prof was quick to respond to emails the requirements were pretty straight forward, i just hated all the discussion questions he posed, alot of them i had no idea what it was about. overall not bad

This class makes no sense what so ever. Thank goodness he lets you redo your tests or you could never pass! He gives no instruction, you just read you chapters, and write/answ questions on discussion board, then take your tests. The textbook is awful, it doesn't even give a concise or clear answer and very hard to follow.

I took this in a 5 week summer semester very hard material but the thing to take away from this guys classes is participation is worth ALLOT!!! it is worth noting that the material is kind of common sense!

This was my first online class and it was so EASY. There is a weekly question and only a midterm and a final test. You also have to do a Philosophy Matrix due at the end of the semester, the class was a cakewalk. I would recommend this class to anyone wanting to take Intro to Phil. Professor Voltura is very helpful and responds within minutes.

Ok, Professor Voltura is the best professor ever, he replies to e-mails within minutes, all quizes are open book, however this IS logic so it is an intimidating subject and not easy at all! Professor Voltura offers retakes sometimes, I took it online by the way.. I passed with a B thanks to the retakes, :)

Jerry is a great teacher that really cares about his students and their success. I've taken two of his online classes and would highly recommend him to anyone. Jerry is very prompt in returning e-mails or calls. E-mails usually within the hour and phone calls were returned to me within 10 minutes after I left my message on his phone.

Doesn't use anything from the textbook due to him using a prior edition. Pages don't match, the points that he wants us to study aren't in the book, and everyone fails his tests due to lack of info. Doesn't update his distance education layout. It's the same layout he's been using for years without a single update.

Voltura is the best phil teacher I have had, and I have had a few now. He is helpful, thoughtful, and never hesitates to give you support. Participation even on the web is manditory, text book is necessary. Tests are Essay format, so you need to know what you are talking about. I would recommend him to everyone!

take this class online, it requires so little- he is awesome about answering questions right away and the only work given is the relevant non-time-wasting sort. the tests and quizzes online are sort of tough though since logic is kind of a interpretive thing and you have to answer cut and dry multipul choice - take the class anyway.
