Comment:

I had professor Heines for both GUI I and II as well as Computing 4. I believe he is one of the better professors in the CS department. Although he opts to repeat himself and go on tangents he does drop useful gems about working in industry. His lectures focus mainly on concepts. In person he is a very nice guy however via email he is quite rude!

He has a clear and simple set of guidelines for students to follow. Come to class, participate, hand your work in on time, and above all else act professionally. His lectures, like everything else, are well documented. He's more than willing to work with a student if he sees the student trying, and is of the best professors this place has.

Great professor in UML. He wants you to learn and really gives help. If you do homework on time and go to class, it is easy to get a good grade. Just follow his notes and 80% of the code is there. Love him and hope more people take his class.

Prof. Heines is an amazing professor. He expects a ton of documentation, but it is very helpful to get into this habit. He explains everything perfectly, he has an awesome website that explains all the assignments and what he expects from you. Take him if you can, he is amazing.

Professor Heines is the greatest professor that this school has. He cares about his students doing well and does what ever it takes to ensure that you do well. Definitely take a class with him before he retires!

Had him for graduate Internet & Web Systems I-He gives you a lot of material, if you are trying hard seems happy to work with you, was flexible as long as you weren't pushing it. Tests were not difficult and assignments were time consuming, but doable. Overall, a pretty decent prof. Has some things he nitpicks, but he's tells you what they are.

Talks too much. I took a class taught half by music teacher half by him. Never taught us to program, just to copy and paste others work. He fixes problems but doesn't show you how. Inappropriate. Argued with music teacher in front of class. Grade display is nice but actual grading sucks. Grades 1,2,3,4. How can you go from a 4=100% to a 3=75%? ARG!

Great teacher and advisor! Not so good of a lecturer, though. His webpage offers a lot of advising help, as well as a very useful grade display program. Very organized. Always willing to take time, a few minutes to a few hours, to help students with assignments, or academic conflicts. He does get a little wordy during class, though.

A great teacher this professor is not. Communicator, possibly. Frequently this professor did not know the language. He sought help elsewhere very often. Likes to repeat things that are not necessary. Nice grade display program to always see where you stand. Course may have been a little outside of his reach to instruct. Put up with it and easy A.

Great professor for early CS classes. Seems a bit over his head in advanced stuff. But will let you run wild with whatever project you want in a project course. Surprisingly sullen and miserable outside of class. But one of UML's CS greats.

I thought after so many complains he will understand his negative ratings and try to improve it, but unfortunately he is as he was years back. He is right about himself,nothing on this earth can change him. He was, is and will remain RUDE prof and UMass comp. sci. students will have to live with it.

Too much talk outside of class subject. Teaching as if teaching an undergrad student. Assignments are good, but deducts points for small things like adding tabs to program. Can be very RUDE while replying email. Overall nice person, can become great person if can learn to control ANGER.
