I love colonial American history, but this class was a nightmare. We didn't really discuss much and I honestly feel like I didn't learn anything and I did ALL of the readings (and there were TONS). Grading was really poor as well. I received a B, but it appeared she just gave random grades on papers. No scale used. I would not take her again.

Dr. Kross is a wonderful professor and humble in her role! She is truly interested in her students and wants you to open your eyes to the big picture beyond the scope of the course itself. If you take her course AND STAY ON TOP OF THE READINGS you will not be sorry. :)

Class itself is fun, her lectures are always interesting. There was far too much work required for a 100 level class, and TA's do all the grading, which I think is an unfair procedure.

I cried to my boyfriend about the bad grade I got on my freakin two-page reading response. He said, "well baby, I hate to tell you but that's the difference between a lower level and a 300 level class." I said, "this is history 111!" Ohhh, yeah. They grade WAY too hard, but she does make things interesting.

She is a great teacher, she makes some of the most boring stuff actually interesting! The class is difficult! A lot of bs papers and the tests are not hard, but essays. It is important to get a good TA, a bad one wont help, in fact, it may hurt you. It requires more writing than an english class and it is graded harder too! Avoid if possible.

A nice professor, but I was disappointed with the way this class was taught. Too much time was spent on background info that could have been covered more quickly, and there many things the class could have explored but didn't. Journal articles were informative, and the writing excerises were tedious but helpful for getting thoughts organized.

She's a good teacher and has a challenging class that is informative. There are alot of papers and the tests are essay, but you can still mess up a few and get an A. I really enjoyed this teacher.

wrote over 100 pages worht of papers in just this class alone. Avoid at all cost if you don't like papers. Also avoid if you can't stay awake/contribute to class discussions. However, she knows her stuff, can teach it, and is concerned about her students

This class is challanging. There is a paper due every week and the midterm and final are essay. If you go to class and take good notes its not very difficult to do well. She is also pretty humerous sometimes. Plus if you get lucky you can end up with a cute TA.

Dr.kross is a good teacher and knows her stuff. anyone who says this class is difficult is a slacker. If you hand in the incredibly short weekly assignments and attend class - you should have no problem. You're not going to find much better for US history.

This is the hardest class I have taken in college. Don't expect to get an A unless you already know all of America's history. Paper's every week and lots of notes in lecture. I would suggest not taking this class.

She expects a lot out of you. You have to go to class or get someone to sign you in. She seems kinda mean at first, but grows on you a little into the semester. She's a great teacher and very easy to understand. Tests are hard, lots of outside work, but you'll learn something.

Dr. Kross is one of the best professors at USC. She is extremely knowledgeable and always well prepared. No tests for her class but frequent short papers and a demanding final term paper. Grades strictly but fair. Class discussion is amazing and get a sense of family with your classmates.

I like how she can relate things in history from past to present and vise versa, and how she kept the whole class entertained on a subject as (often) boring as history. She's a great honors level prof.
