Comment:
Jim is a very poor professor. He is acceptable as far as teaching the material, but often goes into long digressions or anecdotes with no real purpose. He handed back roughly 1/5 of the assignments we completed, and that is being generous. This offended me deeply and made me resent him as a professor. He probably did not grade most of the work.

Comment:
Jim introduces you to some concepts in class and allows (and expects) you to do some exploration by yourself in the assignments. Very approachable and enthusiastic but not very organised. Still, one of the best classes I took that semester. Would definitely recommend.

Jim loves to ramble, but he does end up covering all bases. What a hottie too!

Comment:
Jim is a nice guy and is enthusiastic about his topic, but rambles and goes off on tangents a lot. Further he handed a grand total of 2 pieces of work back over the course of the whole semester, which I found to be pretty disrespectful.

Comment:
Math 121 is the most fun class offered at Reed. It can be hard, too, but it's entirely worth it, even if you don't consider yourself a math person. Jim's upper level classes are awesome as well, although probably not for everyone. ALSO: what. a. babe.

Comment:
121 is a hard class to teach since it tends to attract people who think they know everything and don't actually. He sometimes gets sidetracked, but when he is on track, his lectures are easy to understand. He is friendly, too. And pleasing to the eye.

Jim is wonderful. He can teach an introductory computing course and make it both interesting and useful. Mind you, this is a Reed math course, so it was abstract, but that's good too.

Very excited about his work - he seems quite deeply involved in it and appreciates when you do something cool or interesting in your programs. Also seemed to get off on humor included in programs. Great fun and very empathic towards students' needs.
