This man is the nicest man in the whole world. I've learnt so much from his class and he made me super passionate about biodiversity and ecology. I recommend him 100% and believe that everyone should take him if they can!

nice guy. lectures are enjoyable. He gives note taking cheat sheets. his power points are very confusing so you need to pay attention in class and read the text book as he doesn't go over everything and expects you to have read the whole chapter. It was hard to follow his power points and the chapter at times. Exam were hard, but fairly predictable

Jim Grant is light-hearted and his lectures will put you in a great mood! You have to complete a textbook assignment for each chapter BEFORE the lectures but for the graded part the answers are almost always in the book. Take notes and be sure to be attentive in lectures as he gives good guidance for the midterms and final exam.

James is a great prof. Attendance is highly recommended to get points for answering clicker questions but you can skip a few classes without penalty. Average difficulty tests but James makes sure to mention what type of questions he will put. If you go to class and do the small assignments this class will be a breeze.

Dr Grant will make you love Biology. He is really funny and smart. His class is not one of the easiest, but the weekly assignments (which are really short) help you keep track of what is happening and help you prepare for the lecture. If you go to class and do the assignments, you'll be good!

Exams are okay if you study and do the lectures. Really picky on the written part of the exam. His powerpoints are empty so it's important that you attend class

I loved this class and prof Grant. The course material is super clear and lecture slides all get posted online. What you see is what you get. If you know the slides and do the short readings assigned, it's easy grades. Some test questions are a bit specific (who said a certain quote), but for the most part easy to recall.

He's a fair teacher. Gives an appropriate amount of work. He was also teaching a subject that I really enjoy. What I liked most about this class is that he gives students a lot of opportunities to succeed. For instance my final was worth 20% rather than 35% because I did 15% worth of extra credit. That took a lot of pressure off the final.

Great professor, interesting lectures. His slides are pretty empty so attendance is highly recommended & there are clicker questions. Midterms are straight forward, some memorization required (definitions) and the final was easier than expected. You get to review your midterms and ask questions.

Really enjoyed coming to his lectures, and you will get an easy 5% for attendance. Multiple choice questions are fair but the written portion can require extensive knowledge so make sure you know the text chapters well. Provides guidelines for each chapter you discuss in class so read/answer before class (it will help)! Ace homework for easy pts!

Best teacher I have ever had. Really passionate about what he teaches and makes the classes fun to attend. Participation does count, but if you don't listen, you'll probably have a hard time during exams. He is really clear about what is going to be in the exam and his correction and grading is really fair. Would retake his class anytime!

Grant is a great professor and clearly really likes Bio! A warning for this class, tho - it's pretty heavy on the cellular biology and, for non-bio majors, it's tough! A lot of concepts are covered in other bio classes - the stated pre-reqs don't fully prepare you for what's in this class. Grant is great: fair, accessible and reasonable, for sure!

Great teacher, and really approachable. There is a lot of readings and a lot to memorize, but if you stay on top and do your readings before attending lectures, you'll be fine. Try not to miss a lecture, he posts his slides but he always adds more slides before lectures and he won't post the new slides.

Very good prof. He takes all his multiple choice question from the book suggested questions. He knows they're tough so prepares you in class with clicker. Study and listen to what he says, he gives clues on what will be on the test.

Dr. Grant's lectures are amazing, I never missed a single one, but he is very picky with tests. Even when he made a mistake in the grading of 1 of our tests I had to hassle him to fix the mistake & get my mark. Be careful with definitions in exams, even if you know what you're talking about, he looks for specific words.

The course material was boring but Jim makes it interesting. There are weekly assignments but they are straightforward plus the prof is super helpful. The test are mostly multiple choice but fairly graded. I would take this class again.

Jim is probably one of the best instructors in the biology department. Accessible and a top notch presenter, he brings an enjoyable atmosphere to the lectures. He teaches the course in a big picture frame of mind so be prepared to think holistically. If not, the exam can be tricky. Lastly, go to class! He gives students hints to exam material!

Amazingly knowledgeable teacher overall. He would know the question to your every answer. However, he never answers directly, he lets you figure it out on your own. His classes require understanding the topics, not only memorizing. Therefore, his exams are tough since they are very comprehensive. Great teacher if you enjoy learning. Not an easy A.
