Comment:

Dr. Held is a horrible professor do not take him if you expect to get a decent grade in the class. He is extremely boring and expects you to know every little detail you read about. Expects you to participate but hardly opens the conversation to the student body. Instead he likes to hear himself talk and only respects his views on everything.

He is helpful on papers, but be prepared for writing all over your paper. You will have the chance to do several revisions which is nice. However, he never stops talking even after the hour and 20 minutes is up. You HAVE to read the books in order to participate. Participation is a huge part of your grade and he gives mini quizzes after each book.

Amazing teacher. Been in this school for 3 years and had him 2 years ago and still think he was the most inspiring teacher. He might not have told many of his classes but this man has been through Hell and back and is still on his feet teaching. Hes a hard grader but this guy is a genius and knows what he is doing.

I'm a good student went to every class, read every book did every assignment on time and received a horrible grade. He has something negative to say about every word you write on your paper. He's just not a good teacher period don't take him.

This professor is so dedicated it's mind blowing. If you want to learn TAKE HIM. if you want an easy grade AVOID HIM. He is not easy, but he is so helpful, my god. In my three years in college. Terrible professor. He's the one of the hardest grader- when you get your papers back it will be covered in negative comments. The class is excruciatingly boring and irrelevant to anything you'd ever need. You MUST read, unlike other mosaic classes that are a joke. I dreaded going to this class everyday, as did everyone else. DONT TAKE HIM.

He is a very interesting man with an extraordinary story. Very wise and no matter what topic comes up, he will teach you something related to it that you couldn't even fathom. I was going through some rough times at home and he even took the trouble to call my house and talk me through it. Great Man, Great Teacher.

Held is an amazing prof! He only assigns two papers. He is VERY flexible with due dates, and will work with you one on one to edit them. This doesnt mean he is easy, but he truly makes you a better writer. As long as you show some effort you should get no less than a B. Best prof I have had at Temple so far

He was very good. I suppose his lectures can be boring if you're completely uninterested in the material, but then why take the class? He thoroughly marks papers, which helps you develop as a writer. You should be able to read and analyze on your own. He's nice, intelligent and helpful with writing development. I'd definitely take him again.

I took Prof. Held in 2001 as a freshmen in college. He is the only guy who I remember from my previous years at Temple. I've come back to finish my degree, and look forward to finding a class of his that fits into my schedule. He is excellent, I enjoyed every day in his class. THE BEST ENGLISH PROFESSoR AT TEMPLE WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!

He is a good professor but grades REALLY hardly. If you dod not agree with his opinion, you should change it, otherwise he will lower your grade on papers. The final was hard. Held loves what he does. He knows the information inside and out, but tends to stick to his point of view. Only 2 written papers and the final was easy (he gave us the questions a week before). Some classes are on the boring side, but the stories themselves are interesting

this man puts you to sleep!!! He is soft spoken and slow to start a sentence. he does offer opportunity to pre grade every paper but he expects a lot. he is never clear on what he wants out of you until after you hand in a draft and his topics can be very involved for the amount of writing he expects (3-4pg)

ZzZzZz... Dr. Held talks SO slow. I have him at 8:40 and my God it's hard to stay awake. However, this man loves literature, and he does know what he's talking about, regardless of how often he loses his train of thought. He's very good when it comes to drafts and helping you with your papers.I suggest this prof. but not early in the morning
