Comment:

Pros: He doesn't push the textbook on you & he's very friendly. Cons: You have to sign in for attendance, There is A LOT OF MATERIAL TO BE COVERED, He acknowledges this is MOSTLY taken to fulfill a GE requirement & the interst level is low then doesn't curve any grades or go easy on tests. But he is very nice, I'm not taking that one away.

Comment:

Class is interesting, focus more on the evolution side. The only difficult sections are the ones that deal with Science. Don't need the textbook. Posts way before exam so you can follow along and mark down what you need. Exams: multiple choice & short answers. Easy to get lost and drift off though.

This class is difficult overall because of the amount of information you need to cover. Very clear with his lecture and answers emails promptly. Textbooks not necessary, but must focus on the lecture. He puts up the study guides beforehand so you can just follow along with that. 3 exams, 1 final (last exam is the week before finals).

His tests are blue book and a little hard because the subject matter is so extensive. You really have to do the readings and pay attention to lecture. One essay, one midterm and one final. Only 3 chances to get a good grade so don't mess it up!

What a class. At first, it seemed to be a hard course but stuck to it anyways. A lot of information being thrown at you but by the time the tests comes; you know the info forwards and backwards. 2 papers, midterm, and final make up your grade. So this class was all over the place. His lectures were kinda boring and although I did learn something about evolution and creation his lectures were not always clear. I did enjoy when he played fun videos though. There are only 2 papers and the midterm and final that your grade depends on

He is a good teacher, but you must define every term. Make sure you understand what you are talking about because he is a tough grader. Some of the reading is boring and some is really interesting. His lectures are entertaining, but don't be fooled he is a difficult grader!

Nice guy. Has the appearance of being a tough class but he goes over everything enough that by the time the tests come around, you know it pretty well. Lots and lots of information but a lot of it gets repeated and it's interesting anyway.

This is hard course to begin with and Prof Hoffman makes dense topics interesting and easier to comprehend. He understands that this is a difficult class and encourages students to ask for help. Use office hours and email, it will help. He keeps things light and not too serious. Hence, the poster of Frank Zappa in his office.

I can't believe that other people thought Hoffman was boring. I LOVED his class, and thought he was hilarious. I'm not much of a science person, but he taught in a way that I completely understood. However, he is a tough grader, so make sure you really know the material and explain it very throughly on the exams.

This guy is sooo boring, be prepared to bring your pillow to class. He is a tough grader and never returns emails or answers questions, almost seems annoyed with both. Unless this is your major, there is not point in taking this class expecially if hofmann is "teaching" it.

Being my first class with Hofmann, I was pleasantly surprised. He is organized and really tries to make sure you really understand the concepts. These topics could be much more difficult for us non-science majors, but I felt like he really made it understandable. He's quirky, seems like he might not be approachable but he is. A genuine, nice guy!

So boring! Talks so softly, can hardly hear his lectures. Subject matter extremely difficult. Must read for better understanding. Essay tests/Q's distributed week before. Hard grader! A lot of nervous energy, hard to talk to one on one.

Hoffman made science the easiest part of this very difficult class. His lectures are clear and organized and he makes sure everyone understands the info. Fairly easy grader as long you don't copy straight from his outline. Will reword concepts over and over until clear. Funny as hell too. Great Professor!!

Very cute!! Handsome and knowledgeable!Self-effacing sense of humor and always available to help. Don't be afraid to speak up, he's approachable and kind and enjoys interaction. Loved the class.

i was scared at first because this class is so hard and since he is the head chairman, i assumed hes boring... but i was surprised! hes so funny, makes science interesting and very helpful... i am now looking to see if hes teaching any other classes because i love his teaching style so much
