Jim is awesome, but stern. He really cares about his students and the textshe teaches and that's great. The classes are like a history lesson because he gives you so much context about the stories you are reading. Short quizzes almost every day, 2 midterm papers and 2 final papers, plus a test for both! He pushes you, and you'll be thankful for it!

Jim is great. Really gets into the nitty gritty of the content we read and the cultural context as well. Reading quizzes in the beginning of class so make sure you do your homework! This class is based on class discussions as well so don't be afraid to participate! Take his class, very helpful, insightful, and passionate about the things he teaches

Professor Miller is is by far one of my favorite professors. He is very knowledgeable and insightful. He is also very passionate about his class. Tips for success: 1. Do all the reading because there are quizzes on almost every reading assignment. 2. Come to class on time because the quizzes are in the beginning. offers extra credit

Prof. Miller is hands-down the most understanding professors I have ever had. His class is a challenge, especially for people like me who, despite getting really good grades, have issues with reading comprehension. If you have any issues that get in the way of this class, tell him and he will help. This guy is an angel for passing me with a B!

He is an awesome teacher! You learn so much without even knowing it. His tests are not hard if you take notes and read the works. I'm taking him again for the part 2 of the class.

Jim is the best writing professor on this campus. His ability to critique, explain, and share information draws students in, in an active positive way. He not only knows literature, he knows how to bring a student's writing up to that level. And unlike many writing profs he's driven to help every student improve their work, while encouraging them.

Great professor! He is opinionated but explains why in a historical context and provides a perspective that is not mainstream. If I were to not know anything about politics or labor I would think he was a "leftist." But after reading of labor struggles (social security, unemployment, right to form unions, etc), he sounds more like a humanitarian...

Jim Miller is the best English teacher I've had in the college level. His class is well organized. You have your reading assignment to do before the next class,a brief quiz on the assignment, then the whole class is devoted to what you have read. Material is super interesting and he knows his stuff.I learned so much in his class.Hard not to get an A

Knows his stuff. Obviously prefers more of the modern pieces, and I wish we'd covered a little more than we did, stretched a little further into our modern period. His assignment of 2 novels almost makes me wonder if he understands the concept of Finals Week. Overall, a good teacher.

The labor topics covered in class are inherently polarizing and he certainly does have a clear stance on one side. However, he is a very efficient communicator and solid speaker who teaches well. The texts and readings were all insightful and thought provoking. I am enjoying his class greatly!

agree with previous post - too one-sided and doesn't allow other views to be expressed or considered. No real learning in his class you either agree with him or 'you're wrong'

He is VERY left wing and you have to accept that no other views will be considered. He has an agenda when he is teaching aside from the class. It wasn't a totally bad experience and he certainly is a very easy A (show up and listen and you can't help but get an A) -I prefer a teacher who is capable of providing arguments for both sides of an issue.

Very insightful. Very helpful and caring professor. Seems a bit like he already knows the answer to the question he's asking, but go ahead and try anyway. You'll get a great study guide before the midterm and final. Keep up and speak up and you'll do great and have fun.
