This class was so useless. Schuh seemed to lecture everyone on the most obvious topics, and it was painful to watch him struggle to fill up 45 minutes of class. You write a lot, which is overwhelming at first, but he doesn't grade very hard and I finished my 24 stories like 3 weeks early. No final. No Textbooks

I agree with the person below. He is a kind individual, and definitely funny at times. However, I would not recommend this class. To reiterate, his assignments are loose and his grading even looser. Unorganized, and seminars (more like lectures) were literally pointless, although he took attendance. I learned little to nothing from him.

Honestly, I did not enjoy his class at all, though everyone else on here seems to have loved him. I think I'm an easy rater of professors & I would not recommend him. He is a COOL GUY, absolutely hilarious & down-to-earth, to say the least. But his assignments are loose, & lack of deadlines will hurt you unless you are incredibly diligent.

Prof. Schuh is helpful, funny and really smart! Two stories a week is a lot, but by the end of the semester, you find yourself gaining confidence and a whole lot of real-world experience. After this class, I'm not afriad of any assignments anymore and I also got 24 great clips. Just be sure to pace and don't fall behind.

Down-to-earth, but knows his stuff. He teaches more from a practical standpoint, so you have to get your head out of academia to do well. Be prepared to churn out stories every week too.

Prepare for a huge work load, but in the end, it is the most satisfying experience you will ever have. This class basically me sure that I wanted to be a journalist. Deadlines aren't super strict, but you will want to keep up with the assignments or you will want to kill yourself at the end of the semester.

Prepare to make your world revolve around this class. The workload is way, way, way more than any other JO308 class. He made me HATE newswriting when I loved it before the class. Frustrating.

Writing 2 articles a week (eventually 1 or so a week and about 8 for the last day of class, ouch) was real tough, especially since I didn't expect the time commitment and had an internship, too, etc. Cover ANYTHING so you keep up. I did write some pretty quality stuff, though, that I used to apply to a news internship successfully. Great stories

He is unique but totally awesome. Goes much easier on you than any news editor will. If the amount of work for him is a shock, then journalism is probably not for you.

He's a great professor. Handing in an article every class was tiring, but in the end it made me better. He will definitely teach you a lot. If you put in the effort, you'll do well in the class. Also, if you don't hand in an article, he'll let you make it up the next week. The class is very relaxed and I always found it interesting.

Schuh is pretty much crazy, but he's not a bad guy. Writing a story for every class can be quite taxing, but he forces you to get a lot of real-world experience, which is definitely helpful. His grading system is a bit odd, so be prepared to be confused.

Schuh is the man! U have to pass in an article twice every week, but by the end of the semester writing a news article is easy and u learn a lot by experience, plus not hard on deadlines. More of a workshop, dont really do much in class. Talk a lot, share experiences...awesome.
