Honestly I played games on my laptop most lectures-she tells the same anecdotes over and over you need something to fight the boredom. She really needs to get her tests proofread&maybe not re-write her final exam the night before&maybe not get defensive and rude when students need help understanding her test. Overall ineffective learning experience

This was by far one of the most disappointing classes I have ever take, in two degrees! Dr Martin is typically late (with no explanation or apology), uses outdated grading criteria (example of how not to test) and makes very racially and personally inappropriate comments, and is very condescending towards students. Condescending when questioned

Perhaps an expert in Psychology with abysmal pedagogical practices. This course was case study material for how to lose (and never recover) rapport with students. She constructs poorly worded tests with multiple spelling errors. She overgeneralizes, uses ineffective examples, doesn't respond well to questions.... just not a good teacher.

Joan is a delight. She is empathetic, understanding, loves teaching, and loves her students. She is SUPER generous in her marking. During my exams I was running out of time on my essay and started throwing in non - coherent facts, and she gamve me full marks for it... What prof do you know that will do that?! NO ONE! Except Joan...

I'm not sure I agree with any of the positive reviews here. She is completely useless for feedback, always late, tests are ambiguous, takes forever to mark work...The positive reviews seem like she wrote them herself! Suspicious!

WORST professor ever. Takes incredibly long (ie month and a half) to return assignments, FULL of excuses (which are directly out of the textbook) for everything. Always late without an apology to the class. Talks condescendingly to the class when asked when we would get marks back...horrible prof.

Dr Martin was one of the best professors i had at UVic. she may be a bit late to class, she may be tired in class - but common people, so are you! Listen to what she has to say, explore what she is interested in, Dr. Martin will awake the excitement for developmental psychology in you if you let her. Let her - it will be a blast.

Joan is an incredibly passionate and knowledgeable professor. She takes the time to get to know her students and has them complete valuable and enjoyable assignments that really help them to learn. She is willing to support and help you with anything. She can be late and sometimes disorganized, but she truly cares. Look past the tardiness.

Not only did she not provide us with what we were supposed to do for our assignments, she marked us as if she had. She seems really unstable and is constantly late for class. She needs to stop feeling so sorry for herself, i'm sure she probably knows a lot about what she is teaching but it does not come across that way!

Frequently late for class. Incredibly late in returning marking. Disorganized for class. Nice person, but spends a lot of class time feeling sorry for herself. If she gets her life organized, she might be able to teach. Knows a lot about her area... too bad she has such a tough time teaching it.

She was late for class EVERY day, between 10 and 40 minutes...unacceptable. Some good qualities about her, caring, and willing to help. Overly critical on marking, however, when her powerpoints are littered with grammatical errors.
