Tough grader but great professor. If you are willing to work hard and think a little bit, you will get rewarded. You learn a lot in this class and will be prepared for other Accounting classes and/or the CPA exam.

Very fast paced class. If you miss something you have to teach yourself or go to the SI. Lots of notes. Quiz every Thursday. Smart man, expects a lot from his students. You WILL learn accounting. Overall hard class.

Makes the course much harder than it has to be. Notes are horrible. Hard to follow along in class with.

Comment:
He is simply the type of teacher that makes things harder than necessary. You will have to do double the work of a normal class but will only learn half the amount because he cannot convey concepts through his notes or lecture. As for the tests, he gives you half the time needed and cant write a question clearly to save his life. Have fun.

not a nice guy and he just enjoys punishing students. Only a certain number of A's are allowed which is not fair. Tests can induce panic attacks, and its not even necessary. He is also not good at explaining the content.

Comment:
Dr. Coate was a very rude, uncaring professor. He did not give our class the opportunity that other classes were given. He did not care about our class at all. His directions were always very confusing and assignments were pointless. I would not recommend him for this course, as a advisor, or in anything.

Encourages you to ask alot of questions but doesnt give great answers to you when you ask. Go to the SI sessions to get as much extra credit as possible.

Coate is not very helpful. You ask a question, he gives you a snotty answer, and you'll probably have even less knowledge than you did before you asked him. He started off the very first day by ignoring the attendance sheet and jumping right into the material. Very overwhelming. The only way I passed was through his curves and my own BS

only answers questions with more questions. is terrible to go and talk to about grade. only gives a set number of A's per class. tests were impossible because of amount of information

Good guy, tests are very hard but you only need 80% to get an A. He gives you a lot of points for showing up to class and labs. Labs are very helpful because the class moves so fast.

Somehow made cost accounting interesting. Tests are extremely hard, but he curves to be fair. Be warned, you're gonna work for everything. And how can you not love a guy who asks you bonus questions about the simpsons?

The best class I have ever taken at St. Bonaventure. Prof Coate challenges you to think, and analyze information, and classwork is very open ended.
