Comment:

Joe Bob really knows what he is talking about. As a former art director, he is able to give real life insight that is so helpful. He holds his students to a high standard but recognizes that we are just starting out and grades accordingly. He genuinely cares about his students and every assignment is productive no busy work. I'd take 371 again.

Test feedback is awful. Since tests are automatically graded online as soon as they're submitted, expect a bad grade. He will make corrections but won't tell you what he added points back for and how many. It's unclear if he gives back partial credit or how he corrects our grade. He gives us busy work so he won't have to teach. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS

He assumes you know the material he is suppose to be teaching and is confused if you do not. I had to hire a tutor, read multiple extra books, and take an online course just to be able to get a basic understanding of the material. He should not be a teacher.

Comment:

It is infuriating to see so many people speak negatively about Joe Bob -- I found him engaging, clear, knowledgeable, and very helpful both in and out of class. Do you have to read, memorize and work? Yes. Can you do well? Absolutely. He makes a complex topic interesting and easy to understand. I would highly recommend him!

Worst professor in the entire world. I've never gotten a C in my life until now. Joe Bob is rude, combative, unfair, and a poor professor. He ripped me off on multiple grades and would not even consider changing them or looking them over -- even when he had made mistakes or graded according to some unrealistic scale he made up.

One of the worst professors I've had at Carolina (I'm a Senior). He is completely unhelpful and acts like he doesn't care about his students' success. He tries to trick you on his exams...don't even bother studying, it won't help you.

Great person. Hard tests. His lectures are interesting, but his exams are difficult and the test material has little to do with the notes. I found it diffcult to study his wide range of notes and resources--especially since ANYTHING could be on his exams.

Media planning is a great class if you take it with Joe Bob. It is not easy, but you will learn a lot. On the downside, Joe Bob is not very personable. I went and asked him about career advice and he wasn't helpful at all and at the same time, acted as if I was wasting his time.

Guess what.. the ENTIRE advertising department is pretty hard. There's a reason you have to have a certain GPA to get into the J-school. 170 and 172 were the easiest of the classes I've taken there so far. Joe Bob is one of my favorite teachers at this school. His 172 class is hands-on, making it a lot easier than the way it was taught before.

Joe Bob isn't the easiest and you'll have some tough assignments but he's enjoyable in class and is helpful if you ask for it. The negative ratings must be from people who only want to take French 40. He also wrote me a Law School Recommendation which must've worked.
