Dr. Mays is a unique teacher. However,his class require reading and paying attention. Everytime that I needed help or did not understand, I went to his office. He would always break the situation down for me. When i read before i came to class, It made the lesson more understandable. He prepares you for the next level. College is about reading.

He is a very hard teacher, but he is that way to help his students. I ended the class with a "D" and I did the work, read the book, and took detailed notes. However, I do not look at the class as a horrible experience. He just wants the best out of his students. However, be careful because he is not afraid to humiliate his students. Trust me.

Professor Mays is very intelligent and, yes, the class is hard. Like he says, "if you need help, ask me". He wants his students to learn on their own because, like he says,"the world is getting tougher". You can't rely on no one but yourself. I'm thankful to have him as my teacher. He is truly passionate about his work and country.

Nearly made me quit college from disgust. It is not that he is hard, it is deviation from normal history taught.Quit his class even though I had a good avg & would discourage anyone from his classes.I am retaking this class on RODP instead of JSCC due to the rep.Check out his syllabus online on the JSCC site.The book test is a book that he wrote.

He teaches like you are in a grad class. I took him for both only because i knew what to expect. HE does not cover all the info for a test and showing up on time is part of your grade. He will talk down to you and try to make you feel stuppid. Dont take him, espically if you are offended easily!!

HARD CLASS. None of the history teachers are know for being easy but this man doesnt even cover all the material in class and alot of it isnt in the book. He teaches like its grad school. He loves to give essay questions. If you take him read the book before class everyday he will make you feel stuppid.

This man has the most capitalistic grading scale of all professors. He will not even bump you a point. You have three tests, one mini-test, and one book, which he wrote. This is not a discussion class, but it sure does have structure!
