He is such a nice guy, but he is kinda old and tends to hop around on topics that aren't relevant to the course. He is lenient on deadlines, but is a pretty tough grader. Prepare to do a lot of reading and learn the material on your own. However, I do recommend taking this. He allows a cheat sheet, and everyone typically passes with a good grade.

He is a sweet man and he lets you have a crib sheet on exams. However, do not take unless you like teaching yourself in-depth philosophy. We never followed the schedule and he rambles about anything except the material. He just wanted to watch movies and give out candy instead of actually teaching. He's very forgetful and just a bad teacher.

Took as a Second-half class. Grading consisted of a few half-page assignments along with a Mid-Term and Final. Very nice man, but does get off topic quite a bit. "Moneyball" and "Frost Nixon" took up 2 class periods respectively. Would recommend taking the class, as he does allow for a "crib sheet" during tests.

He's a good guy, but he was not a good teacher for this class. He got off topic a lot and then would expect us to know everything from the reading verbatim, even though the readings were complex philosophy. The tests are pretty easy because he lets you have a cheat sheet, but you don't learn anything in this class.

Took the 8-week accelerated course. Pappin was a good guy, but an OK teacher. He was confusing at times, and the way he grades the essays for the exams is tough. You only have 2 exams and 1 paper to write. Also you will have 2-3 quizzes. He gives you the EXACT exam questions a class period early, so take advantage of it. Try to take good notes.

I took his accelerated class in the fall and got an A. Overall it wasn't a very demanding class. It's 3 hours long but it's only half the semester, and he's a really funny guy so he makes the class bearable. Interesting info but keep up with notes because he can be inconsistent in that area. Overall great guy, just keep up and you'll do fine.

I really loved this class. Tests are made up of a matching portion and essay questions. You have to do all of the reading to do good on the tests, but he does give you the questions that will be on them ahead of time. He's funny and really nice. He also cares about his students which is rare in professors. I would recommend him to anyone.

He is a funny guy, but he doesn't always make sense when he lectures. You have to read the book or talk very good notes on everything in class to do well on the matching on the tests and quizzes. Not too hard of class though.

I would not recommend him. Not that the class was hard, but I did not like his grading method. The tests were essay and matching & half the time was spent with him giving out candy. Attendance was mandatory and you need the book. The best part were the panels, b/c the students teaching each other actually made more sense than him teaching all 8wks.

I loved Dr.Pappin! The sweetest guy ever! Sometimes he was a little grumpy, but hey he does from Charlotte everyday! He made the class interesting- loved the debate aspect! When he lectures, he kinda goes around in circles but if you actually do they readings you will be just fine. Take his 8 week classes- totally worth it! Great guy!!!

Political Philosophy and the idea of a 3-hour course are of course going to bore one, but somehow Pappin will make it interesting (at least for awhile). I loved him, thought his odd sense of humor was hilarious! One of my favorite professors. He does get very off topic for long periods of time which is annoying, but not too bad, and he's awesome.

Watch out guys, this guy is no joke. He talks in circles and expects everyone to understand his jibberish. He tries to be helpful, but it definately falls short. Quizes and tests are EXTREMELY hard, just be prepared to spend alot of time on a class that shouldn't be that hard only to pull a B if your lucky.

I took this class as an 8 week course @ night..big mistake! He is unorganized and late to class constantly. However, he will work with you if you need to turn in work late. He also is a very nice person but can be very boring. My advice...stay away unless you love Philosophy...
