I took a class from Joel 13-14 years ago at Reed. (Just discovered this site as I'm now in grad school.) Kicked my butt but I learned SO much. I still reflect on what he taught me. Thousands of pages of reading, very difficult concepts, but he made the material easy to understand. Also, he was hilarious. The best professor I had at Reed.

Going in, I thought it'd be boring. Coming out, I learned a lot and enjoyed the subject. Super easy professor. Really nice. Did about 1% of the reading. As long as you take notes, you'll do fine on the tests. Class was made up of 2 midterms and a final. I only bombed the midterms cuz I didn't really study. Interesting subject. Take this class!

Mind blowingly easy. Most of the reading is not required (there were only a few questions from the Ericksen book for the first test). Incredibly hot TAs (Tim! Candler!!) but I highly doubt they are going to TA the class again. Tests are based mainly on emphasized lecture material. Format: short answer. Final=Easy. Slight curve.

Great Class and so easy as long as you actually pay attention. But please don't ask questions during class...it gets so annoying and it gets him off topic. The TA's this year compared to the one's posted earlier were really great and the discussions make it alot easier to grasp some of the concepts you have to know for the class. Read the boxes!

Nice guy and really enjoys teaching. His lectures are his exams, and it's pretty easy to take notes. I never read, and i still managed to score above average on exams. TA's are a*******, tho. They grade ridiculously, but it's not too bad. Everybody fails, but his curve is amazing.

Professor Robbins is such a nice guy and you can tell he loves teaching. HOWEVER, his lectures aren't the most interesting (to put it mildly). But take good notes because the material on the tests are straight from his lectures (and the reading, too - don't overlook it!). Robbins' is nice... but the TA's do the grading, which isn't a good thing...

WOA WOA WOA. Yes this class is kinda easy BUT its not multiple choice tests like it was a year ago, its short answer, and the STUCK UP, NO HELP T.A.s grade the answers, and unfairly. If you do the reading and take good notes you'll do well BUT the T.A.s are very nit-picky. The most snobby ugly people I've ever met.

he looks like a hobbit.lectures contain a lot of information so make sure you take really good detailed notes, right down to the vocabulary of the tribes he talks about. any words that he writes down on the board are usually on the exams. reading isn't that necessary, only 2-3 questions on exams. bulk of exams come from lectures. he curves the exam

The very first day of class I thought, "I have Jiminy Glick as a professor!" He's very easy to understand, and seems excited about what he has to say.
