If you are ready to be engaged in class, I think he does a great job. The class attendance dwindles drastically towards the end of the semester. His midterm was fairly easy (high 70s avg), however he marks VERY difficult on Finals. He does let you make cheat sheets for midterms and exams (both sides, just no words, only equations and formulas).

I was surprised. After reading these reviews I expected my experience to be bad with Dr. Chen. He was a decent lecturer, and was enthusiastic about the subject. That being said, his homework assignments are really long. His teaching assistants this year were really helpful.

You guys don't have any clue at all. He is not lazy at all, instead, he works too hard , much harder than you guys and you guys only want good grade without working hard. Simply, what you guys said is not the truth, at all !!!

Control systems is said to be a field with great potential and worthwhile. This guy can't teach, doesn't care about us, is lazy, hands exams after the withdraw date. Thinks a F and a vw on transcript is same thing (which is not). Marks hard on exams. Brings the final exam and most of the class fail or do horrible. He doesn't even actually teach.

I know what you're thinking, "Wow another scathing review of Xiang Chen." Well, you're absolutely right. This guy is inconsiderate for absolutely no reason. It's almost as though he gets pleasure out of being mean. To top it off, organization of course topics, lab and projects as well as due dates are mind-blowing. Steer clear if possible.

Control theory has potential to be an exciting and interesting topic. I would have really like to say that I enjoyed my time in control systems II. However, I cannot imagine anyone enjoying 3 hours a week listening to this guy. He's absurdly rude and inconsiderate. The man has no regards for the rules, is lazy and unapproachable. Not great.

Alright as a teacher, although extremely rude and harsh. Very rude if you go see him at his office. Broke numerous university rules including only having less than 10% of our marks back before the voluntary withdrawal date, as well as assigning a lab, project, and assignment due the day after classes were done.

Attending is important he explains well however he is very stubborn when it comes to grades review although he claims he is not. When he marks midterms/finals he will be looking for small mistakes and he will deduct lots for these mistakes. Abit too hyped but overall he is ok

Teaching quality is ok. Exams are fairly easy. However, as a person he is as bad as it can get. The worst individual ever. Very rude and ignorant and ill mannered. Must have skipped Behavior 101 in early childhood or may be bad parents! who knows!

What most profs don't get: make exams such that you have to understand the concepts, and the major points covered in class, not memorizing tons of crap. He understands this. Fairly nice guy, very energetic in class, good automotive related exams.
