There is much more to being an educator, especially one who specializes in Literature, than reiterating the same analysis that can be found on sparknotes or any available online critique. He lacks the ability to prompt students to flourish as scholars outside of the classroom within relevance to the course, which is his job.

He seems cool a first, but beware. Took him for a summer class, so I expected things to be condensed, but not that much. Outrageous reading. One of the toughest graders and gives no feedback. I asked him why I got a low test grade and he looked at me as if I had 3 heads. Tests are all essays. Gives pop quizzes so do the reading. Wouldn't recommend.

I feared taking this class bc of others reviews. In all honesty, hated the first month. Def. tougher than I imagined- that said.. worked hard and put in effort.. ended up with an A. He makes you think independently and does challenge you. Participate, show up to class and you should be good. Would take again.

He was great! His class was hard and he really pushed you to develop your ideas into a well-written argument and he makes you earn your grade. The class was discussion based and I really loved it. He is clearly passionate about his job and it rubbed off on me!

I have mixed feelings about Coulombe. I really like him, and I found his class enjoyable. I'm a strong writer, and I have taken at least 7 other English classes with various profs and have gotten nothing less than an A. His comments on papers are conflicting, and leave me confused and discouraged. I recommend him, but he's definitely a challenge.

What exactly makes Coulombe an awesome professor? The heavy workload wasn't the issue. I did more than my fair share of work while others didn't, yet they received A's. Students cheated in class and he could have cared less. And he's tenure bound?

He was awesome. I thought his class was very interested, and I enjoyed going. His discussions helped clarify the text, and he was open to all interpretations as long as you could defend it. His papers and tests were challenging, but he forced you to grow as a writer and reader. I learnt alot in his class and would love to take him again.

I'm not sure why this guy is getting a bad rep on here...he's an excellent teacher, I'd recommend him to anyone! His exams are a little tough, but do-able. All he asks for in papers is a well-thought out thesis with good evidence to back up your argument. Not difficult, and I absolutely loved the class. He's great-not to mention hot! :)

I had him for Seminar II and Native American Literature. It was a lot of discussion and yes he did offer his opinion quite often but I think that only enhanced the class. Seminar II was a little dry but Native American Lit was extremely interesting. He's a really nice guy and can actually be pretty funny. Take him if possible.

I had him his first year at Rowan for my Senior seminar class. We argued incessantly. He'd be a hell of a lawyer. Always asking you to go deeper, to support your ideas. He didn't want you just agree with him like others put on here. That's completely untrue. He expected a well-articulated answer with backup, basically, put up or get out.

Don't bother trying to think in this class, it won't get you anywhere. Just write down his key points in your text book, all tests are open book, and you'll get an A. Classes are mind-numbing with his mundane interpretations. AVOID A NIGHT CLASS, you will sleep through the entire thing!

have something good to say in class and be prepared to defend it. During 'lecture' write down what he cares about, it weill prbly be on the exam. No class participation in final grade. Tough grader, very little chance of more then 1-2 people getting an A per class. Cute but takes class too seriously.

I think he's really good; he doesn't so much "teach" as just open the room up for discussion, but I prefer this in a LITERATURE class. If you don't want to read and you don't like participating, don't take him. Otherwise, he's really cool, very helpful and usually pretty funny.

Out of all my English classes, his was the only one where I received anything less than an A- (B+). If you don't regurgitate his opinions, you can't get an A. His exams don't "draw the line between experts and amateurs." It's ridiculous to ask students to do so much in such a brief amount of time...and this is coming from a grad student.

Those that complain about this professor should think twice about their major (English). He is an awesome teacher. Yes, he is hard. Yes, he demands a lot from his students. The pressure to answer questions in an hour and fifteen minutes establishes the line between the amateurs and the experts. Stop whining and absorb the information provided.
