Dr. Garvey is very kind and wants each student to succeed. She is very clear with her grading and if you see her outside the classroom for papers, she is the most helpful there. However, there is A TON of reading required which tbh just took too much time to actually read and many students ended up just skimming it.

A wonderful lecturer, caring and helpful. She always gives good feedback at right time. I would like to attend her classes again. I have learnt so many things from her!

Prof. Garvey is a great professor but her course requires a lot of nightly reading (sometimes too much) and she is a very tough grader on papers. She is always willing to help you better understand the material and help you better your writing. The books required for the course are interesting so lectures aren't bad.

The reading would have been okay if this was a higher-lever or major course, but it was the freshman core english requirement. Her grading was so unnecessarily tough on papers, I always had to rewrite them. I took AP English in high school, had a very tough teacher & am a strong writer, she gave me low B's on every paper. I wouldn't recommend.

Prof Garvey is extremely sweet and cares about your opinion. Class time is completely what you make of it, and revolves around the topics you raise your hand to talk about. Great class, helped my writing a lot. Didn't even read all of the books but got an A. Please don't be afraid to participate.

Great teacher. She's always for her students just simply see her for her office hours. loves to recap prior material so you don't forget and as long as you take notes you'll be set for your paper. reading is a must!

Awesome teacher, willing to help a lot. Abuse her office hours. She used a variety of 'thin books' so readings were always cake. She isvery structured and detail is key. Participation is a must including attendance ( i had an 8 am) but its worth the A

Really difficult teacher in that there is so much to read. I am a very slow reader, so I always felt like I was behind and was therefore stressed a lot. She is also a meticulous grader. She forced me to be good in English essentially. She was essential in me getting such a good grade for the class. Definitely go to her office hours!

Really nice woman, uses interesting & good books. But is so unclear about what she wants from the essays. Says it's really open ended and free, but if you don't write about something good enough, you don't get a good grade. If you're a really good, strong writer, take her. If you're not, look elsewhere because you'll have more rewrites than essays.

If you are NOT an English major please do not take this class. She analyzes everything to the point of sheer exhaustion. We butcher every book and try to extract some submissive meaning that is entirely incoherent. I mean, if you're into that stuff take this professor, otherwise, save yourself. And not helpful during office hours.

This was her 1st year teaching the WSCapstone, she did incredible! She set us on a path but allowed us to make the class our own. Readings, pretty unique from other WS course I've taken. I loved the capstone b/c it was nice to finally have Prof who didn't talk down to you! We're close to graduating & finally someone who was treating us like it!
