not a bad teacher if you wind up having the writing style he likes. IMPORTANT = paper must have a great opening sentence or you'll get a bad grade! overall not a lot of writing and tells you EVERYTHING you need to have in your paper beforehand..just take notes and use some sparknotes here and there and you'll be fine. It's a required course so not too many people want to take it. That said if you're already good at english you will do ok. There are two small papers assigned for grades during the year plus the midterm and final. If you write what he wants you'll do fine, otherwise it will be a long year.

Very very strange grader. Wants things no way but his way. Yeah, he lets you re write papers, but he usually grades you lower on the re-write! Boring, goes on and on. However, very light workload. Only 2 papers, midterm and final. Go to class!! I wouldn't take him..

A couple papers - each only 3 paragraphs. Wants you to be concise and to the point. If you take notes on what he rambles on about you can get A's easily. Rewrites are openly accepted. Nice guy..I'd take him again.

the class itself is pretty dull, but at least he only assigns two papers and lets you rewrite them if you do badly the first time. he's a nice guy, overall, but he tends to repeat himself and go on and on, which makes it all too easy to zone out in class. he was probably a genius in his prime, but now that he's old, his lectures are just slow.

The class material was pretty bland, but what do you expect form a core course? In found that if you're a good writer you can do great, and even if you're not all you have to do is go speak with him and be honest. He's a great guy who really cares about his students. The negative reviews are from students who don't do well in English classes.

OK--I took this guy over 10 years ago. While a tough teacher I found him to be pretty lenient if you went and discussed your grades with him. Personally, I thought he was a nice guy but the class wasn't all that interesting.

if you just try his class is no problem. some of these reviews are delusional. go to class. read. listen. and put effort into your rewrite and you will be beyond fine. i thought he was a great teacher. i had a C's on my first two papers, with rewrites: A's. final grade: A. just put in some effort!

He's a tough grader and if you don't write exactly what he's looking for he will give you a low grade. There are only to papers and he lets you revise them for a higher grade. The class wasn't really that much work, but he is extremely forgetful and it gets annoying after awhile.
