Dean Barthell... nice guy, good on lectures (interesting), 4 or 5 papers to write (kind of pain), final paper also, tests were matching & essays. Overall, enjoyed the class but not an easy A.

Comment:

Not difficult at all. Take notes from PPT and study the night before or even the day of. Tests are easy; can make a 99+ on every one if you make some effort. Lot of papers which are a pain. Very intelligent & learned man who is well spoken & has a good sense of humor. I can see why he's the Dean. Take any class you can with him. His final actually made me lol

Too many writing assignments. Wants your opinion and what you thought was the "take home" message of each writing, but then takes away points if it doesn't reflect his opinion. You have to go to class. Exams are all matching and essay. Hard to write an essay when you missed the lecture. Not your typical BIO class.

This class was somewhat difficult. There are tons of writing assignments. Dr. Barthell is somewhat monotone and quite philosophical. Will help you if you have any questions. He tries to make the class interesting. It is best to attend all of the lectures or you will be left behind.

by far the BEST college professor i have ever had and that is EMPIRICALLY true. he is helpful,gives lot of notes, helpful with lab and most importantely down to earth with student just ask him any question. he is not like those selfish science professor. HE IS JUST GOT IT. i ll recommand him to all us students. he is fabulous.

This was one of the best classes and teachers I've ever had. So interesting, but sometimes there seems to be a little too much work. Just make sure that you come to all the lectures, memorize everything, don't plagiarize, and you should get and A. Excellent prof.

He is the best teacher you can possibly have for this class he will write all the notes on the board, explain in detail everything, you wont have to buy the book, tests are from notes, he doesnt mind helping, and he will even acknowledge your exsistance outside the classroom! nice man i even took him for general biology when he taught that class!

I took Prof Barthell in 02. He was one of the awesome professors ive had. His cool and gentle nature and mild humor keeps the class going. He gives a fair review and if you take down good notes and pay attention, You can do well in his class. Very very helpful during office hours and makes you believe that you can do it.

Dr. Barthell knows his stuff - That's for sure. His Zoology class is ridiculously hard, though. And not because he teaches far-reaching, abstract concepts, because it is terribly boring, mass memorization. Only take this course if needed for major.

Is definitely one of the best in the bio dept. He is helpful & really tries to make sure you understand. It's a tough class but there's not too many in bio that aren't. You have to know your stuff (don't buy the book-just use your notes) & be dedicated. If this is too hard, get out of bio!

Yes this is a tough class, but its a requirement 4 Pre-Med, dont take if you dont need.NEVER TAKE ANYONE ELSE.1st semester I took Laws-a horrible boring miserable man.Dr. Barthell tells corney jokes but is the easiest An Bio teacher that UCO has.Find some1 who took the class before & get old tests!

Lectures in very lax way that makes it easy to comprehend and not stressful. He is humorous & the parasitic lecture is perhaps the most entertaining. Lecture exams are EZ if you study everything & lab exams are a bit more tougher. Missing class would hinder your performance so attendance is key.
