Comment:
Love the man, but do not take him if you're pre-professional. He gave out two A's for 35 of us and a lot of C's. I had to devote 20 hours per test, and it is by far the harshest grading distribution I've seen at Furman. It requires too much of your time for an introductory course when you have high level science courses to study for.

i love this man. he would always meet with me and go over old papers & tests. alot of moodle quizzes which really boosted my grade bc we have unlimited attempts & the questions are literally in the textbook word for word. the tests are pretty hard but its all multiple choice. take notes, do the readings & study for tests and youll be good

Dr. Batson is one of my favorite professors! His classes and lectures are very interesting. Tests aren't too bad if you study and use the study guide.

Dr. Batson is a very nice professor and applied the lectures to many life examples which made it easier to understand, but the class was just... boring. You have to do a lot of outside studying if you want to do well on the test, especially since with some lectures he didn't even finish before the day of the test.

Batson is the man! His class is always entertaining and funny and he tells great stories that help relate the material to real life. His tests aren't bad as long as you come to class and read the textbook. There are a lot of assignments to help you out if you don't do well on one of the tests. I will definitely take him again if I have the chance.

Dr. Batson is an awesome guy and good teacher. He keeps his lectures interesting because he knows students will fall asleep if he doesn't. The final grade consists of moodle quizzes and 4 tests so you HAVE to study for the tests -- multiple choice and challenging. Definitely need the book. Attendance isn't a big deal either.

He's an awesome guy, and will help you out. Be there or be square, also read the textbook (he pulls a lot from the textbook). Biggest downfall is that the whole class is contingent on four (non-cumulative) tests. No other grades to help you out, and his tests are HARD. Only one or two people got A's, he likes to keep the mean at a C.

Dr. Batson's class is an undeniably challenging, but if you open up and let him know you are unsatisfied with your grade and need help, he will be right by your side with study tips and test taking strategies. Super nice guy that genuinely cares for his students and is so passionate about the subject he teaches!

Batson is the classic old lecture professor. His tests are kind of tough even though they are all multiple choice. You need to read the book. He is the easiest of the psych professors.

If I study more for this class than any other in my life, I should get a higher grade than a C. His class is needlessly hard and taught really poorly. The tests are ridiculous, and his "help" wasn't helpful at all. Deserved to be fired for not teaching at all.

Very good professor. Challenging course, but very informative. Professor Batson is a great guy and I look forward to his class each week. Tests are all multiple choice, but still very difficult. "A" grades in this class are elusive.

Great professor. Very personable. Tests are difficult if you do not study the material but as long as you pay attention in class and read the books you will do fine.

Very helpful, very approachable professor. Organize your own reading assignments with his help. Read before lectures, and read again before tests. Review notes after class and make connections with textbook. I didn't do a lot this, but it would've helped if I had. I used the workbook, and I feel like there are better ways of studying.

I took Animal Psych - it was a useless course. Simple material was made hard by his inability to teach. Tests were much more difficult than was necessary. He marked you wrong over differences of opinion and would not satisfactorily answer questions. This class was a waste of time.

Dr. Batson was fine as a professor. He taught at an okay rate and taught the information well. However, he is not organized or time efficient. We basically had five days to write a twenty page paper because of him. The stress we underwent because of him was unneccesary and completely avoidable. I suggest taking a different professor for PSY 22.

Class made me want to drop my Psych major! Experimental and Statistical Methods ISN'T easy, but it IS required. Take a deep breath and suck it up. I'm not crazy about Batson's teaching methods...he often goes off on tangents and takes forever to make a point. OFTEN pushes just to get new material in for the test the DAY BEFORE the test.

One of the more lax psych courses Ive taken. The reading may pile up but there are few other assignments so its not that stressful. Tests were tough but the average may have been as high as a B-. You may enjoy the material or you may find it really boring (lots on birds and insects). It made me see human behavior in a completely new light.
