Comment:

He knows the material well, he's a practicing psychologist so he uses what he teaches in real life. Lectures are informative but very by-the-book, matter-of-fact even though psychology is developing. Treats the DSM more like a bible than a developing bunch of viewpoints. It's not a bad class, I'm just not a fan of AbPsy in general as it is today.

Fantastic teacher, and amazing course structure. You have to really not care to get a bad grade. The lectures are always interesting and oftentimes hilarious, and his test questions usually come from the textbook itself instead of lectures, although the tests do not make up a big part of the overall grade.

Great professor. Probably one of my favorite teachers at UMass. His course struture is very easy to get an A in. Fully discloses all the work you have to do! Also, I had him as my advisor in Psychology as well. Very upfront, energetic, and helpful. He will not give you a sense of false approval or success. He expects students to earn it.

Excellent teacher, good lectures and the workload isn't too bad. The tests were tough but you can still get a good grade if you do all the extra work. Online quizzes are retakable and you only need to get an 80 to get credit. You can do the ones he doesn't cover for extra credit too. Grading system is very fair. Would definitely take Conboy again.

I took him like 3 times. He is amazing! He truly cares about his students and he is absolutely brilliant!! I've already graduated and I've gone to see hime at least twice for his advice with grad schools!! He is one of those professors I will always remember and keep intouch with!

Conboy is an amazing professor. The fact that he is a practicing psychologist makes him that much more credible and makes for great stories. He really cares about his students. I would def recommend taking a class with him.

Probably my favorite prof at UMD...excellent lectures, great sense of humor, very interesting and the only professor I've actually learned something from. Cares very much for his students, but you need to show you care too. Sometimes comes off as standoffish and difficult, but you really just have to care about what you're doing.

One of the few former profs I keep in touch with years after the fact. Excellent communicator, good sense of humor. Practicing clinician so he knows how to apply theory to practice. Bent over backwards helping me apply to PhD. If you don't get along with him, it's probably your problem, not his.

Not a bad class. You can print out the lecture notes online. I like his grading system because you can still get an A even by failing the tests. He's pretty funny and always has interesting stories to tell about his field. Has attendence quizzes if no one shows up.

Love, love, love Dr. Conboy. Best prof at UMD. He knows his stuff and he practices what he preaches. Don't take him if you want an easy A, take him if you want to learn something, a lot actually. He is the best.

For abnormal psych he is really clear on expectations. He gives you a syllabus and tells you exactly what you need to get an A. If you do the work. You get an A even if you dont do well on tests. Also there are no due dates, everything just has to be in by end of semester. Take him if you can

Abnormal psychology was the best course I have ever taken. Dr. Conboy was a great professor for the subject. Lectures were excellent. If you are a psych major, take this class with him, he will teach you alot of helpful information.

Hes a good teacher and an interresting guy. His biases are very aparently though. His grading style was hard to get used to so i had to take the class again, which i didnt mind so much since i did enjoy it. got an A the 2nd time. Pretty good teacher, good class. not too bad an advisor

I think Dr. Conboy was a good teacher, very funny and did some great relaxation exercises, but as an advisor...he can be a degrading "meanie". Good teacher, would recommend a diff. advisor, though!!
