Comment:

John knows a lot of stuff an he loves to share it however often this has nothing to do with the lecture. Lectures were incredibly boring. I would not recommend taking this course unless you have to. If you have another option choose that.

Comment:

Heavy lectures and very knowledgable but the Eos 110 class covers way to much and at times was like trying to drink from a fire hose... I won't be taking Eos any further and if you as well don't plan to move forward in EOS I'd recommend a different elective.

Comment:

Made us feel bad for taking notes in class as he expected us to have read the text book or be able to go back to the slides after class. Even when I read the textbook it was hard to follow along, and he gives so much supplemental information along with his slides that you can miss things when you go back to look at them later. Know the material!!

John is a great teacher, really knows his stuff and teaches in a great way. Explains the content well and teaches at a good pace. If you are interested in Ocean Science John is the best prof in my opinion. Very knowledgable on the subject

I was not a big fan of Dr. Dower. I found him to be quite rude and discouraging. I will never take a class with him again. I recommend avoiding him and taking this course with someone else.

great guy, super interesting lecturer. talks super fast so it's hard to take notes but it hardly matters since all the slides are online. he covers a lot of material during the class but makes you aware of the most important topics

One of the best profs I've had at UVic so far. John teaches at just the right pace, in such a way that demands your attention. He is clear and concise with a touch of humour too. Amazing teacher!!

Dower is the best prof I have ever had. This class is so interesting, take it as an easy upper year science elective!! No prior knowledge of the ocean needed and you will do well if you go to class. I hung on to every word he said, so so interesting!

AWESOME prof and course. I highly recommend both. Tests are fully written, so know the material (there's a lot) but they're fair and the posted notes are great. Textbook is not necessary. Dr. Dower is a really interesting lecturer.

I also took EOS350 with Dr. Dower and he is wonderful to learn from. He knows the material very well, but is still willing to discuss other theories with you. Favours written tests so it's important to understand the material, which isn't difficult if you attend class. A great, fun prof.

Very good lecturer. He obviously spends a lot of time developing the notes so that the students are interested and the course reflects the breadth of the field. I wasn't expecting to enjoy the course, but in the end I really did. He emphasizes understanding the material over memorization. DON'T leave the cruise report too late!
