You gotta be an honest student to take Ficken and I mean HONEST! He likes to do a lot of work for you, which can help a lot if you don't always get things the first time, however, do not fall into the trap of learning anything because you simply copy your homework from his notes. You are an ME, and life is in your hands. Please be HONEST!

He's a pretty good teacher. Lazy students loves his teaching style b/c he sort of does most of your HW for you. The way to learn in his class is to do honest work, then ask for help if you're confused. Otherwise, you will not learn much because he's a little easy. He cover's everything, but dishonest student do not realized that.

Had him for ME-230, controls 1 and controls 2. I have to disagree with most of the comments about "hard to learn from". Basically, pay attention in class, look over the material (like you're supposed to...) before class, ad you'll do just fine. Extremely helpful if you're not clear about something.

Very easy grader, I don't think it's possible to fail anything in his class as long as you write something that looks like what you did in class. He's hard to understand though, and doesn't explain everything clearly. I'm not sure if anything we "learned" in this class will actually stick with me.

This was a really hard class for me. He is a hard teacher to learn from. His handouts need to be typed because I couldnt read them. Only about 5% of the book was covered and I dont feel that I learned the material.

One of the nicest guys at MSOE. Laugh at his jokes...just do it! The class itself is boring, but Ficken is laid back with labs and does your homework for you...so that makes it bearable.

I'd rather sit on a pinecone than take him again. Really nice guy, though - I enjoyed getting to know him. Lazy students love his teaching style; students who actually desire to learn will learn the majority of the material painfully on their own from the textbook. You will pass his class, though maybe not subsequent courses.

Was a very easy teacher. Barely anyone ever got below an 80 on one of his exams. Goes over most if not all homework in class before it is due. In his office for help a good amount, but shouldn't ever need help outside of class. Doesn't teach the best, but makes a relaxing class so you can focus on others.

Very nice guy, making the rest of these comments hard to make. Lectures are excruciatingly boring and worthless,you will learn very little,you will get an A,you will not be prepared for the subsequent class. Not a good teacher.
