Dr. Gurria is very old. He is hard to understand sometimes and his power points are difficult to learn from. Also, he rarely returns homework or labs. The upside is he is a very easy grader.

He uses powerpoint which makes it a little hard to understand the steps of solving a problem. He assigns homework problems and gives quizzes weekly. You need to study by yourself to understand the material. He is an easy grader, he will give you points even if you do only few steps of the problem. Lab reports are required.

He is a good guy but not so much a good professor. I could see going to the bars with him. He just tells you how to do calculations and then clicks his powerpoint and gives you the answer, no work is shown and no numbers. Homework is hard and it is on stuff that hasn't been taught in class yet. Tests are hard as well and long. AVOID

If you didn't take AP chem in high school, good luck. Prepare to teach your self all of the necessary material in order to do well on tests and quizzes. Gurria briefly covers topics after assigning and collecting the homework for them, and will continue to teach a chapter after the class has taken the assessment for it.

I had Gurria for lecture and another professor for lab. He was alright. There was a midterm and a final only, so if you like more than two exams I suggest another professor. There were weekly quizzes and you drop the lowest two. Just be prepared to study at home because lectures aren't that sufficient.

If you have already taken chemistry he is a great teacher. You mainly teach yourself during this class. He reads off of slides, but lectures before labs so you someone know what you are doing for them. It is very difficult to pay attention for long and would suggest other professors at MSOE. But if you are a determined student you will do fine.

Dr. Gurria is a genuinely nice guy but not a good professor. He spends half of lab talking, making it impossible to finish labs on time. Also, quizzes and homework do not reflect what was learned in class. Speaking of learning in class, yeah that really doesn't happen. If you want to understand, you HAVE to read the textbook. Avoid him if possible!

Long hmwk assignments on topics not yet covered in class, you have to teach yourself the material (but class is mandatory, go figure). Guy is crazy, is fun to laugh AT but class is boring. Keep your lab grades up and you will do alright... He grades quizzes just looking to take points off and commonly writes feedback that makes no sense. AVOID

Had him just for CH200 lab. Spends an hour talking about what you will be doing in the lab(helpful if you didn't read up, but it gets old) and likes to ask the class hypothetical questions while actually expecting an answer. Wasn't much help when my partner and I had issues with the labs.

One of the Worst professors I have had. This guy will spend more time starring around the room at people rather than teaching. He said that he doesn't like numbers and he teaches science at MSOE. I do not understand why MSOE pays some of these "Dr.'s" to teach when they can't relate at all to the students. Avoid!!!!

Great teacher for those looking for a chem credit or first time starting out in Chem/Physics. Nice and helpful if you need any help. However, try to avoid if you're going to take a higher Chem (i.e. Organic). Mostly teaches from the book (but doesn't actually read from the book) Quiz/Test are somewhat easy if you study/pay attention.

Just did bullcrap the entire course, never payed attention, at first it seemed hard but it got better. Lab is so easy and in the end the entire class was easy. The quizes never studied for and passed them all. His tests are so easy. Write nonsense and chances are he will give you credit

He may be ok for your early chem/phys courses, but his curriculum for organic chem. is terrible. Our lecture was at one point, the huge homework assignments we had were weeks ahead of lecture, and our weekly quizzes were god knows where, so we were never sure what to study. Hes a nice guy and has good intentions but be prepared to teach yourself

HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!!!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! If you have to take professor Gurria, be ready to teach yourself. For organic he did not even teach us about benzene rings!! If you learn anything in this class it is going to be what you taught yourself. To do well on the exams be familiar with the homework and the problems on the quiz.
